Ok, so in an effort not to make a donation to chevy, I tackled the install of a new cable. With the car on the lift it made things a lot easier? I guess. I also removed the battery for another small job. Any way cable in, smooth action , NO START. So I am wondering if the cable was set in the right gear or it only goes one way. Or is it because of battery removal or ........................................ ............

Did you accidentally change the position of the lever at the transmission while installing the cable?
I'm thinking that the selector lever on the side of the transmission is opposite to the direction of the floor shifter. Shifter fully forward would be lever all the way back.
With shifter in N in the car. Take the end off at the transmission. There are five positions on the transmission. You want it in the middle for N. Pop it back on and check.

Ok, thanks everyone for the help.I noticed the I had set the trans lever the wrong way . Had it all the way forward so as soon as I put the lever towards the back of the car and it fired up. Now I noticed I need to snap the cable into the funky C looking bracket which hard to get to. .

Are you talking about the red plastic piece that comes with the new cable? If so, was there one on the old cable? I chucked that red piece out when I replaced my cable years ago. Never a problem with it missing and the car never had one as far as I can remember.
No. Not the red plastic piece. Are you trying to mount the cable round piece that is about five inches from the end of the cable in the rear that goes in the stationary bracket ?
Yes 2008, the cable locks into what I call a C bracket which fastens to the transmission. What a setup. If you don't lock the cable down then while moving the selector in the car the entire cable moves forward and back loosing each gear selection. I removed the bracket and will re connect to transmission. Very tight area for trying to snap the cable in without removing from transmission. Now I see why Chevy gets around $650 to replace. Patience and you can do it, that's what I keep telling myself anyway.
I also removed the bracket from the transmission. Made it a lot easier snapping it in place. Just remember bracket orientation to transmission when snapping in place. Good luck.
Shifter in neutral with that end of the cable snapped in place, trans lever shifted to neutral but that end of cable not installed yet,
Remove the red clip on the end of the cable, snap the adjustment lock piece out, snap the trans linkage on the trans lever post, then snap the lock piece back into the cable so the cable is set to that length, then snap the red piece back over to hold the cable length adjustment lever secondary retained (may have to pop the cable back off once locked to get the red piece on in the end.
Simply, you did not unlock the cable to adjust its length to the cars needs, and the trans shift lever is not detent position adjusted to the shifter assembly.
You can use the part position on the two for the cable length adjustment, but the shifter assembly park position switch loves to push back on the lever to have the cable slightly out of adjustment when adjusted that way , and why I like to use the neutral postion of the shifter assembly and trans lever to make the cable length instead.
All great tips from the forum. Took awhile to get familiar with working on a C6. C2's C3' have done a lot of work. Any way got the cable ends indexed, console back and retainers. All good!!!!j
Thanks again everyone for your help
