Default Light changing question

Hey forum!

I'm working on swapping out all the original lighting with LEDs and came across an issue. I ordered everything from Vette Lights and so far everything is great. When swapping out the high beams there is a bulky ballast and plug harness that comes with them. I'm not seeing any place to mount it where it won't b e visible. Has anyone else done this switch out? If so, where did you mount or hide the ballast? Any pictures would. be great as well.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks.

I sent a message through the website, but did not hear back. I checked and they are closed on the weekends so I guess I have to wait until Monday to call. Guess this project isn't getting done this weekend.

Default Light Changing Question

Update on my lighting issue.

After an exhaustive search on Google, You Tube and the forum I found nothing to help on the installation of the LED/HID high beams from Vette Lights. Am I possibly the only person to get these? I saw a video for another similar type without the big bulky ballast and resistor harness that was much easier to wind up and tuck away., but nothing on the ones I got. I found videos for their fog lamps, low beams and switchbacks, all of which I ordered and installed without issue. Bit nothing for the high beams.

Also, if anyone has upgraded or switched out their high beams, were you able to put the dust cover back on? The video I found for the other type showed the cover would not fit back on so they just left it off and clipped the cover back over the opening. Not sure I like the idea of that.

Should I just skip this upgrade altogether?

Lastly, as part of the install I tested both lights and one works and one doesn't. Has anyone ever had this issue with Vette lights? All the other lights I bought from them work awesome. I'm not sure if it can be replaced or if I just have to scrap this and just leave the factory high beams in place.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

I would upgrade the fogs instead.

LED’s typically don’t need a ballast. Leave them alone as they are unless Vettelights as a definitive answer. How often do you really use your high beams ?

Mad Max,

I already did the fogs, lows and the DRLs with the switchbacks. I just figured if I was doing a full lighting change on the car I might as well swap everything out.

2008 Corvette,

My apologies, I meant that the new lights are the high beam HID conversion kit. I'm waiting to hear back from them. If theres no simple fix or other alternative I'll just leave the stocks.

I do use them on and off as some of the back roads here have no lights on them. I'm thinking with the new fogs and lows I probably won't need them. I just figured I'd swap them all out, but I can live without them I guess.

Thanks for the feedback.

I hear ya, when I had my C6 I felt the same way (already had the HID fogs done) but just never got around to doing the high beams. On country roads the superior high beams definitely will help.

Mad Max,

That was my thinking, but if there is no easy solution, I'll live without them.

I originally installed the high beam HID kit on mine, and I didn't like them because they take a while to warm up to full brightness, I ended up buying the Morimoto LED C7 style headlights from Vettelights instead, which are sooooo much better than the stock lights. If you do stay with the HID's, you don't want to leave the dust cover off, otherwise you'll get dust/dirt on the inside of your headlight housing. If I remember correctly, what I did with mine was to cut a small hole in the dust cover to feed the wires through, then sealed it up with some silicone, then there was a spot I could tuck the ballast into behind the headlight, that I secured with 3M VHB double sided tape, which you can find at Ace Hardware. I've since also added the Morimoto fog lights

If I remember correctly JW Motorsports has a LED high beam that I used in mine and the cover went back on no problem. I will have to go back in my log and look for the number.

This was the area I tucked the ballast into when I had the HID's

HID hi beams are not a good idea. LED hi beams are a great idea. Send the HID kit back & get the LEDs.

If you want a good quality LED for the high beams and fogs, you can go with Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 (we sell those) or our own house brand Luxen kit here:
https://www.umnitza.com/luxen-v3-led...men-6000k.html

For fast start, flash to pass operation, you cannot beat LED, HID aren't designed for that.

Great speaking with you earlier!

Reversing the connector to reverse the polarity should get that second light firing right up but let me know if that is not the case and we'll get it taken care of for you!

Our HID Kit will allow re-use of the dust cap. This is one of the major advantages of going the HID route - ensuring no moisture/dirt/bugs are able to get inside the assemblies if the covers were to be left off. Most LED bulbs (at least ones with any notable level of output) will have a large cooling fan base that will inhibit being able to reuse the dust caps - using something like this leaves the door open for moisture buildup, dirt accumulation, and critter nesting. We do also have some high-powered LED high beam bulbs that will still allow the dust cap usage but typically recommend HID over LED solely for the fact that it uses the optics better and creates a more ideal beam pattern compared to what an LED will in my personal experience.

Yes! This is exactly where I mounted the ballasts on my personal set also - no issues at all!
