Has anyone here taken their C6 GS on the Auto Train? I'm looking to save the mileage for a trip from Florida to New England.
But the clearance limits look iffy.
Just doing planning, not an urgent question.
Thanks, CB
What does the Auto Train's website say about damage to vehicles? Do they inspect the car before they put it on their train to note - in this case - every chip or scratch in the paint with you by their side to verify that you gave them a undamaged car? Do both you and their inspector sign off on it? When does the finish on your car become their responsibility to maintain?
My wife and I took a 23 day, 6550 mile, trip out west that covered 15 states and many scenic stops in cities and national parks in May 2019. Taking our car put us on our schedule - we stopped where we wanted to stop when we wanted to stop and stayed for as long as we wanted to stay - plus we didn't have to worry about someone damaging our car. We took almost 4000 pictures along the way. One of our bucket list trips is to the New England states, but there are plenty of places along the east coast we want to see before we get to New England. There are a lot of beautiful places to see in this country. Just drive it and enjoy the road!
I don't mean to sound abrasive, but I don't understand what the point is of shipping your car somewhere so that you can drive it when you get there. Is that the intent?
There are folks who have their Harley's shipped to Sturgis so they can ride them around town when they get there. That makes some sense because a 2,000 mile ride with two up would be hard for many folks.
I thought part of the enjoyment of having a Corvette was taking road trips.

I think the OP answered that question in his post.
" I'm looking to save the mileage for a trip from Florida to New England."
My brother took the auto train once and swore never again. He had to wait hours to unload his car, not a vette, at VA. Remember you have a long ride to New England from VA. How many miles are you actually saving.
I'll be followng this thread too ! Always been curious and would clearly be willing to do it if i'm sure a fellow member did itand confirms.
And it would be for the same reasons as OP. I'd save on Mileage. I'd be taking it from (Near) Washington (Lorton) to Orlando (Sandford) saving more than a 1000 miles.
I'm from Canada, which is a long enough drive to Florida. I spend all winters here.
Thx for the nice topic. Let's wait and see if any member has done it.

Hey max...
Is this you? -
So then, why does my answer concern YOU? Kinda hypocritical no? That's the beauty of this forum and this great country of ours, I can comment on anything I damn well please, lol. As far as continuing on a journey, and your feelings, the same expression applies, love it or leave it. Next time, stay out of grown folks conversations junior. Now, ain't THAT nice?

And, the beauty of this forum, and our nation, is that (for the time being), if I want to post something, I can. If you want to police the forum for all the snarky, impertinent, minimally offensive posts that occur, be my guest.
How dare I inquire about why a person would want to ship a car rather than enjoy the journey driving. I apologize for my unthinking comment...

Really? You must not be on any social media other than this forum. In the U.S. ALL social media sites are trampling all over our 1st Amendment rights. Look at what FB just did in Australia. They are over the top. It's something I haven't seen in my lifetime.

Dawg, I was being sarcastic. I know what is going on, and it is a cryin' shame. We are in for a rough ride, for sure. If it doesn't get turned around, it's "Goodbye, America, Hello Far West China", with no sarcasm this time.

Missed the sarcasm......sorry about that......but you are right. It's a shame.
