I’ve used Techron over the years and never had, or heard of a potential issue with the product. Long story short, while looking for it at Walmart, a former GM service manager (according to this person) told me that she would never use or recommend this product due to potential spark plug damage. Said she’s seen it herself.
New one on me - has anyone ever heard this? I did do a Google search and came up empty.

People at Walmart are crazy. I had a guy tell me that Mobil 1 filters were junk, and I should use a Motorcraft filter... For my Chevy... You can't take them seriously.

Since you were at Walmart, does that mean you're crazy and not to be taken seriously? I guess it would apply to me, too....
No worries, javaman. Techron is in Chevron, Texaco, and Caltex fuels, and the bottled additive is used by literally tens of millions of people worldwide. Probably the best fuel additive ever invented.
Techron is the fuel additive used in some of the top tier fuels (chevron). Other top fuels use different additives that do that same thing, and that is to clean, and keep the fuel system clean of build up deposits. It will not harm the car in any way, nor the spark plugs.
As for a former GM service manager, which pays a hell of lot more than any Walmart position, and now working at Walmart (even if managing the automotive department), that in itself should have had you questioning any advice that he was spouting to begin with.

I really didn’t put much stock in what this person said. Figured it would be a good topic though to kick around. Techron is, as we know, a well respected product.
Chevron stations in my area, owned car 5+ years and dyno tuned on 93 Chevron with Techron.
Just fueled up today always keep near full tank ,trying to protect sending unit with Techron
Not a lick of problems with plugs
The only time Techron would hurt is if you use it very frequently like every fill up. Doesn't hurt the plugs one bit but it can wash a little past the pistons diluting the oil. Even though Chevron has it in all their fuels it's not at the ratio of what you would add their supplement. When I was using it I'd put it in before a oil change. Now I use Lucas with every fill up as that's one of the few you can use at every fill up. It's formulated completely differently then all the rest and it pays for itself with increase mpg.

I use Techron once or twice a year just for the gas tank sending units more than anything. I had a Jeep Wrangler that would get a 'dead spot' every once in awhile and the guage would work again after I put that stuff in.

I trust service managers as far as I can throw them when it comes to technical knowledge. They may be nice and get your car fixed, but unless they can provide some documentation or verifiable evidence to support their claim, talk is cheap.
