I figured I would vent a bit here because well no one else would understand my frustrations. So for the longest time, i have been dealing with steering vibrations. They were so inconsistent than I honestly thought it was due to the road. They would come and go, variate based on speed, get better with wheel balancing, etc...fast forward to today. I got someone from this forum to allow me to use their spare wheels to rule out bad tired are the vibration issue. Sure enough, vibrations were still present at higher speeds and worse the faster i drove. Continued to read about balance issue and I figured maybe it was the rotors. To test those, i reinstalled the OEM GM rotors that I had replaced couple of years ago when I changed my brake pads. And sure enough, the car broke without vibrations. So I was static. Ordered all 4 AC Delco but I got the performance ones that come with black hats. The rear were identical to the OEM rotors. However, the front new AC Delco was not exactly the same as the OEM. The only difference was the notch in the rib area. I figured maybe it was a different design or the set I got did not need that notch for balance so I went ahead and installed.
Went to test drive and vibrations are present. At this point. I have new brake pads and new rotors front and back. Like seriously.... Given the vibrations is mainly the steering wheel to the point one can see it shake, i went back to the OEM rotors and test again. Again with those older rotors, no vibrations. I can't use those older rotors because with new pads, the pads do not contact the whole face since they already have been worn out in such a pattern.
This is insanity. What are the chances i ordered new front rotors to stop my issue and they also come out of balance? Can it be that the issue is something else? If so, why don't I have it with the OEM rotors? My next step is to ordered GM genuine rotors 177-1126 and hope those come exactly as the OEM with the notch and that it solve my issue.. one plus side, i adjusted my e brake and now it holds the car like a champ.. of course, that was after replacing the rear shoes spring which broke when removing the rear rotor on the passenger side.
