Default Hatch Noise

Good day everyone. I'm having an issue with a noise from the hatch on my 2008 coupe, It's making a double clicking sound when I release the hatch.
It was making the same noise prior to me changing the struts. I am attaching a short video so one can hear what I'm talking about. Is this a common issue?
It was only making a single click until about a month before I changed the struts. Then it started making a double click which did not go away after I changed the struts.
Thanks for any help or ideas.

The hatch has an opening solenoid to pop the hatch. That is what is what is making the noise the solenoid is powering up and not holding.
whether it will need a complete replacement remains to be determined. .......Might just need cleaning

My mistake on (yr) but I believe this is what we are talking about.

HK70 thank you for your reply. The hatch stays closed and only opens when I release it with the fob, interior button and bumper button.
The noise only occurs upon release of the hatch, the noise is a double hit of the hatch sticker against the trunk latch. In the video I'm the one releasing the hatch.

Even though you have new struts, they might have the wrong support rating for the hatch, allowing it to rebound, causing the double-click. Regardless, it does not seem too far out of the norm, and you say it is perfectly functional in all modes of operation. I would not think there is anything wrong with your solenoid, as it seems to be operating correctly. I believe the sound you are hearing is the rebound of the hatch, which may or may not be due to the struts.

Thanks for the replies. The replacement struts were Strong Arm 6508 which were the recommended ones for the hatch without a spoiler.
I'm just beside myself trying to figure this out.

Try this, and see what happens...disconnect one strut, then close the hatch. Open it, and see if the sound occurs. If it opens okay, without the double-tap, it is a good bet your struts are too strong. If that does not affect it, it is obviously not the struts.

I also need to say that I am not sure the struts come into play on the initial opening of the trunk. I was under the impression that there is a spring assist, but do not know for certain. Still, I would check it out to rule out the struts as a cause.

Thanks for the suggestion of undoing one of the struts, i had time today to try that. No difference and still get the rebound upon opening the hatch.
Back to the drawing board I guess.
