Hello.I want opinions.I am going to have it check out elsewhere. But I have a 2013 grand sport.I have never track the car.And just normal driving. So I took it to a dealership that I never used before for a oil change and I told them to check everything out.So they called me and said they ran a diagnostic on my car and said everything is good.So l said I will pick it up the next day.So then I get a call the next morning saying oh that they discovered my shocks are bad.One is completely busted and the other is leaking in the front. But my question is I just had it lined up last summer and only put about 4,000 miles on it.It drives fine and corners fine no shakes or rattles. And no bouching at all.The car has 38,000 miles on it.But I'm wondering if the dealership is just trying to make some money. But I said not to do the work and the man said you mean you don't want to get new shocks and I said no.But he gave me a price of $2,000 dollars.I am going to pick it up and take f I to the dealership I have always dealt with. What are your thoughts.I had many vettes but this is the first time something like this happen.
I will put this out there and you can take it as you will.
It's easy for them to say your shocks are toast: how can you know?
Purely anecdotal evidence, but none of my shocks (on any of mine) have never been deemed "bad." I've been told once that one (on my '14 was "leaking" Knowing what I know now, I would never have replaced it. It was "weeping," and not a concern in the near future., weeping is normal; especially on Mag ride.
Anyone with mag shocks should understand what owc6 wrote. The mag ride shocks (F55) are robust, and engineered to never need replacement. Do they ever go bad? Undoubtedly, some will, but simple "oil on them", or "leaking" is not a sign of any problem. Lots of dealers will tell you the shocks are bad, and bill you $1500 or more for the fix.
I'll bet you that same $2000 that there is absolutely nothing wrong with your shocks!
I just changed mine, now granted they're not the mag ride shocks, 2008 with 40,000 miles and they weren't even dirty. This is the dealership just trying to generate unnecessary work.
