Default C6 Rear Hatch Pushbutton not working

I own a 2008 C6 Corvette. Recently I became aware that the pushbutton switch mounted above the license plate for my rear latch was not functioning when pressed. The key fob button & the dash control buttons work. So I replaced the pushbutton switch & it still does not release the rear hatch. Does anyone have any thoughts what could be wrong?

Are you near the proximity of the button with your fob in hand or pocket? The fob has to be close to the button (like 3 feet) for any of the outside opening buttons to work. Don't know if you knew that already.

Page 2-15 of your 2008 owner's manual.

Press the hatch/trunk release button located on the
rear of the hatch/trunk lid above the license plate,
as long as you have your transmitter with you.

If your vehicle has lost battery power, open the
hatch/trunk using the vehicle key. See Keys on page 2-3
for more information. The key lock cylinder is located
on the rear of the hatch/trunk lid above the license plate.
Turn the vehicle key clockwise in the lock.

It is definitely a button. There is a keyhole too, but normal ops is to just hit the button next to the keyhole. Do you own a C6 and not know it is there?

you are right. There is a push button there. today it is my first time push it after I have my C6 for almost 7 years. I always thought it was a rubber piece to seal up the opening.

Remove the passenger side tail lights and look for the plug below them for the wire harness. There is probably corrosion building up in the plug, which when cleaned it should work provided your button is new or clean. Use some electrical contact cleaner and a small stiff bristle brush to clean the pins in the male side and spray cleaner in the female side and let sit for a few minutes before blowing in out. Use some dielectric grease when you put the plug back together. Make sure it works before you button it all up.
