Default C6 Infotainment system question

Just bought the 60th Anniversary Edition Corvette and created a USB thumb drive with 2 folders and can find no way to access the second folder........nothing in the manuals that I can find.......the songs in the first folder play fine, just can't figure out how to access the songs in the second folder.
Any help appreciated.

If a C6 question, then I'll move this to the C6 forum.

It's like some kind of state secret. I figured out how to do it about a week ago, and it wasn't obvious, and now I don't remember exactly, other than I had to navigate up to the parent folder, and then it listed all folders underneath that one. There's no documentation on how to do it - it's not in the user manual for the NAV system, and I couldn't find any screen shots anywhere. All the manual tells you is that you can plug a USB device into the console port, and gives limitations on the file structure. Also, the shuffle feature only works in the current folder, so if you load all your songs on the USB stick by splitting them into separate folders (as 1 folder per CD), then it won't play the next folder after it finishes. It just keeps shuffling the same folder. I figured it was too difficult and dangerous to try to change folders while driving because it was distracting, so I just loaded all my songs onto the stick without creating any folders, and it works like a champ. I've got over 4000 mp3s on a 64GB pen with room for probably another 3000, and it will play them in alphabetical order, or shuffle them. It works like a champ, and you can use the steering wheel controls to skip songs, or go back. The next time I take it out, I'll see if I can snap some pics on how to change folders and I'll post them if no one else beats me to it. It will not be for a week, probably.

Thanx....yes, I did the same thing....moving all the tunes to a flat file........however there has to be a way and IF it could be found, the folders would essentially hold different "playlists"......how cool would that be?
Not terribly impressed with 2013 documentation!

There's definitely a way because I had originally just copied all the folders that the media player had ripped onto the thumb drive. I was able to navigate to the top level of the drive's file system and I could descend into any of them and start playing the tunes. I might be able to check it out tomorrow. If 'shortcuts' work maybe playlists can be created without needing multiple copies of the same file.

OK, I did a bit of research. First, the file manager in the NAV software doesn't recognize Windows shortcuts. I was hoping that I could load up all the ripped CDs into their respective folders and create shortcuts of all the tunes into one folder so that I could play individual folders, or shuffle all the tunes in the one 'master' folder. Didn't work. It won't even show the folders with the shortcuts because it doesn't think there are any tunes in them. Regardless, I can show you how to navigate to the top folder.

The above is what I get when I plug in the USB thumb drive - takes around 30 seconds for the system to figure out that I've plugged in the drive, and display the screen above. Press the 'Track Select' button to get the following screen (your file names, of course, will be different):

Press on the up arrow icon, and you will go up one level in the file hierarchy.

Since I've got only 1 folder named 'All Tunes' on the stick that the software thinks I have tunes in, this is the end result. If you have nested folders, keep selecting the up arrow until you arrive at the level in the file system that has the folder that you want to play, and select it. I think if you play with it a bit using the above examples, you should be able to figure the rest from here. If you can figure out how to get shortcuts to work, I'd be most interested. Wouldn't be a problem on a Linux system, since file links work really well there. Good luck, and good listening.

So much easier with an iPod. I have a 16 gig Nano. I can do playlists right on the screen.

Congrats on the 60th anniversary edition and welcome to the utter frustration with the idiots that created the head unit. Remember that it was obsolete in 2005.

Thank you so much for the detailed directions, it worked like a champ and was very easy! (once the "secret" is revealed!) I created three folders with names generally describing their content and the system recognized and displayed all three and once selected, displayed properly (and played) all the tunes within each folder........

This Forum is turning out to be a "god-send"!!

I hope other issues regarding the car are better documented!! ;-)
