Just had a thought.....looking at the flywheel stop tool and it occurred to me that with a 6M why can't I just put it in reverse and set the e-brake??? Should take all the torque I would need to remove and replace the HB bolt. Thoughts??? Thanks!!!
That was my theory. Was told not to do it by someone on the forum. I threw it into 6th, had E Brake on and my girlfriend in the drivers seat standing on the brake pedal. Also had bricks behind the wheels. Had no issues at all. Did the same when putting the bolt back in.

Some people claim success with that method, but I find there's too much wind-up in the drivetrain to swing a breaker bar within the confines of the engine compartment. I prefer the flywheel locker.
I just went through upgrading my balancer for an SC install. Unfortunately I planned the same thing--putting in gear with the e-brake. Didn't hold. Ended up buying the flywheel tool on Amazon and lost a day waiting for it to arrive.
Why not have someone just sit in the car and hold the brake pedal? Well, in my 12 GS, I had to pull the ABS block to get access to the power steering lines...

Yes it's only a few bucks, but it just got me thinking anyway. The wind up of the drive train makes sense. Guess I'll get the tool. There's probably enough floating around this site that somebody might want to sell a used one or loan one if I paid the freight. Probably a tool you'll never use again!!

DeWalt electric impact. 1800 lb-ft of break away torque. Literally zip the HB bolt right off like it was nothing. And no need for handbrake or flywheel locking tool.

Also, makes removing lug nuts simple and fast.
Definitely the best $200 I have ever spent.
. Nice tool. However I would be concerned about the threads in the crank. You f those up and it will cost you a lot more then a $12.00 flywheel lock.
Now that's something I hadn't thought about either !! The crank lock tool is closer to $40 than $12 but again, screw up the threads in the crank and yikes !! You're using a hammer action on a bolt that probably wasn't designed for that. Snap the head off and you're not going to get a puller on the HB !!! That's why this site is great !! Lots of different thoughts and thought provoking as well. Spacceme1117 might have just been lucky! We'll never know because it worked for him. Anybody got a lock tool they want to sell? Thanks for all your thoughts!!!

OK that gets the bolt out but how are you going to torque the new bolt?
did mine with it in 6th, E brake pulled. The factory garbage bolt was finger tight so no tools needed to remove, torqued the new ARP bolt to 240 foot lbs with out a problem.
