I have searched and searched for some information on the different wheels that came from the factory on the C6. While I was looking to buy my new car, I saw many options that were out there. With a lot of cars out there, you can look at the rims and know what trim the vehicle has. I can't seem to figure out the C6 wheels though! I think I've seen about 5, 6 or more wheels of different styles and finishes that I believe are factory equipment. I was very happy to get the wheels that I have on my car since out of all the options I have seen, they are my favorite.
From what I've read, I believe the wheels on my car are the Z06 wheels. I've also read that these wheels are too wide for the base Vette. I've seen posts where people show the wheels sticking out quite a bit from the fender. While mine appear to stick out, it is a very small amount, nothing like the other pictures I have seen. I was lucky enough to have received the window sticker, which is laminated from the previous owner. On the sticker it shows polished aluminum wheels as an option that was on the car for $1,295. I also have another laminated sheet from the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. That has a ton of info on it, that I don't understand yet. However, one of the things listed on there is, QG7 Polished WHL.
I'm wondering if anyone can clear this all up for me? Are these actually Z06 wheels, replicas (which would be weird because of whats on the sticker), or a different size Z06 type wheel? I am so lost with all of this right now!
For reference, I have a 2007 3LT. The tires on the front show 245/40 ZR18. The tires on the back show 285/35 ZR19
Your wheels must be early Z06 replica wheels (pre-2009)
Why do I say that? .... Because if they were OEM wheels from a Z06, your tires would stick out of your wheelwells way too far if mounted on a base C6 such as yours.
Looking at the last photo you posted, your rear tires do in fact stick out a little, so at this point, I am confused.
I believe the OEM Z06 wheels had "Made in Italy" and "Speedline" imprinted on the backside of the wheel.
Anyway, C6 OEM Z06 or GS wheels don't fit worth a **** on a narrow fender base C6 ... the offset is all wrong.
So .... Your front 245/40 -18 tires and your rear 285/35 -19 tires would be too narrow to fit properly on OEM Z06 wheels.
Yup ... your Z06 wheels are replicas made for a C6 base car.
Thank you so much for all the knowledge Turbo6TA!! I am quite disappointed that they are replicas. As I said, they were my favorite "factory" style that I had seen while looking for a car. I still love the look, but it looks like if that's the style I like, they are my only option.
Do you think they stick out too far. Could there be fender damage if it were to bottom out? I really don't plan on doing anything crazy with the car, but if it's a possibility, I may have to look into replacing them with some different OEM wheels.
Yep, those are reps. But so what? Your car looks very nice.
Check for spacers behind the wheels. Lots of guys use them to get the tires flush with the body.
Thank you. I love the car and I do love the way the wheels look! I guess I'm just disappointed because they aren't OEM. I was thinking about just keeping everything OEM. I am also concerned about fender damage if the car bottoms out. I honestly don't think that will happen because I don't plan on doing anything too crazy with the car, but it still concerns me. After all, I did have her going 130 mph on the test drive! I had to see what she could do!
I guess this also opens the door for me to do other things to her. Like I said, I was going to keep it all OEM, even though I had some thoughts about changing a few things. Possibly something to get a little more growl out of her, nothing too loud, just a little. I was also thinking about upgrading the radio to something much more useful. I have the navigation radio, but obviously it doesn't compare to what's out there today. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. I guess I just need to give it some time and enjoy her the way she is and if I decide to change anything, cross that bridge at that time.
As others have stated you have early Z06 replica's, and because they are sticking out a little bit I would suspect you also have wheel spacers. A lot of folks put small spacers on to bring the edge of the tire flush with the body panels. You might be able to see the spacers looking through the spokes, they go between the wheel and the brake rotor.
I had put OEM C7 wheels on mine before I went widebody:

Thank you! I will take a look at that and possibly remove them if there are spacers there..
According to the 2007 order guide (page 10 of the attached), "QG7" is a polished version of the 5 spoke wheel shown in post #9 #14 for the "standard body" vehicles. These are also known as "gumby" wheels due to their curved spokes:
The wheels on the car now are a narrower replica of the "QL9" Z06 wheel on the same page, so at some point the wheels were switched over from the original factory rims.
