Driving my 07 tonight and had cruise set. Heard a pop like you pulled your finger out of your cheek. Sounded like a fuse maybe?? Cruise kicked off, SES light came on RPms went up about 900. No sport mode or paddle to change gears. Trans temp rose from 133 to 199 in 15 miles. Got to stop sign and it was in like 3rd gear?? Stuck in whatever gear.
I know I need to get codes out but can’t do that till tomorrow. Just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone so maybe I could rest better tonight. Found a good person who let me put it in their garage for the night.
Regards, Jeff

I have no idea other than a fuse, or battery issue. But, going from trans temp 133 to 199 in 15 miles is pretty normal. Sounds like it is certainly an electrical issue more than a trans issue.
Decided to drive it home this morning. Got in it and all was good. Made it the 36 miles home and trans temp only got to 155. Shifted normal everything fine.
Pulled code PO700. Read a little on it but nothing definitive. Any insight on this would be appreciated!
P0700 is given when the PCM detects a malfunction in the transmission control system. This malfunction causes the vehicle to set a Check Engine Light and trigger a failsafe mode. Once the failsafe mode is set it will remain until the fault is repaired or normal operation is detected.
I did the trans filter at 120,000 and have 150,000 on car. I drive it about 400 miles a week. The pan was clean, very little to no dust.

since it cleared by itself I wonder if you have a problem with the connections to the TCM. With that many miles it's very possible theres corrosion on them. Also, just a long shot, how old is your battery? You just hear these cars doing wacky things when a battery begins to die.

Did some more reading on it and seems like it could be an isolated event. Going to check both ends of battery connections and check by trans. Going to carry my code reader and cross my fingers.
Where does the trans temp gauge get its temp from? Pan or cooler lines coming out of trans or after it’s been through radiator? What is the temp that it needs to be shut down?
Optima battery 4 years old. Are you talking about connections on the outside of trans or the ones inside?
Regards, Jeff
Outside of trans. Not sure where the read out picks up the trans temp but it would make sense it would be after trans cooler. I highly doubt you could get the trans hot enough to do damage unless you were doing track events. When I had my Silverado 2500 and towing climbing mountains over 10k feet the trans temp would go as high as 280 or so and then drop back to the 200 or so range on the way down. Never did anything to it. Trans oil always looked good when we serviced it. One thing that I preach over and over hear on this forum is to buy a load tester to test your battery as that's the best way to determine if your battery is any good or starting to go bad. They're cheap enough to have and you can buy a good one from Harbor Freight or on eBay.
I checked battery, both ends of cables and plug in. Seen nothing remotely suspicious. Made the trip tonight of 65 miles no issues whatsoever. Hopefully an isolated incident. I do have my code reader with me now.
Thank you all for the replies! Very much appreciated!
