i noticed Saturday on long drive, that when taking off from a stop, the analog or heads up display, would
not display the mph reading until about 19 mph ( it would stay at zero, then jump to 19mph on both displays ).
the only thing i can think of, because of the 19mph, is the CAGS. since i believe that 19mph is when the light comes on
( i swapped the fuse 4 years ago but, never had the CAGS tuned out ). I'm going to check that fuse and see if anything looks suspicious.
any other thoughts?
i still haven't checked the CAGS fuse ( sorry, life gets in the way ), but along with the delayed display of the MPH, yesterday while at idling, the '1-4 shfit' came on. i revved the engine for a second and, it went out.
the analog and HU display wont activate until about 18mph. then when stopping, as soon it the MPH hits about 16-17, it drops to 0.
if the fuse isn't the issue, then it's to the shop for VSS check.
If the cags light on the dash light up, its fuse is fine.
As for the VSS sensor, not hard to get to, since is the only sensor on the top of the diff.
Its the sensor just to the right of center line, and on the top of the diff in the photo between the rear axles .

i'll pick one up this weekend. will have to wait till next weekend to install it. will have my local shop install ( with an oil change and installing a new air dam )
i miss having my own garage.
i did pick up a new VSS sensor and, had the local shop scheduled to install. the repair book showed .8 hours, technician could see a reach the sensor, he could get good enough access to it, to remove it.
he feels that he would have to drop the exhaust a bit first. for now, i told him to wait for now. i'll schedule it later.
I change them by feel, but if your tech needs to see what he is doing, then they make mirrors for that.
And with the car jacked up/lifted at the jacking points, it drops the diff down enough to give plenty of room to get the old sensor out, and the new one in.
So you reach up from the front side of the craddle on the passenger side, push the release tab to pull the connector off the sensor, put a wrench on the bolt to remove it, sensor pops out since it just has a O ring to seal it to the diff channel, pop the new one back in, hand thread the bolt back in, then wrench it tight, then put the connector back in.
It really only a 15 min labor job including putting the car on a lift, but time added into it for the shop to do the service paper work and collect the payment as well.

my shop could feel the sensor but, said that they couldn't get a wrench on. he felt that he would have to drop the exhaust a bit for necessary access.
not yet, i trust this shop. he just needs a mechanic with smaller hands(?). he's been fair to me over the years, does good work and will toss in the occasional freebie on smaller jobs.
