Default Rear diff Question?

Is it actually necessary to go and do figure 8’s after changing the diff fluid?

could I theoretically just go hit up some twisty roads?

don’t really have any parking lots or open areas close to me big enough to do figure 8’s. But I’m right next too twisty backwoods roads.

so that’s why I ask.

6 or so three point turns in and out of a driveway should be sufficient. Go lock to lock on the steering. Might even work better because you're reversing the differential action on the clutch packs. YMMV

Manual states run the car at 10mph with the wheels in the air for about one minute. I did this plus a few 3 point turns and things are fine.

What happens if you do not do figure 8's. I had all fluids change when I bought my 05 never did 8's?

Best guess is that the figure 8s just speed up the integration of the new fluid into the clutch packs. You'd have to think just driving around in town is going to do that in a few days just making left and right turns.

The point of it is to mix and circulate the fluid throughout coating the gears. The aim of the figure 8s in a parking lot is to do it a safer environment, while going making the tighter turns.

I would think tighter twisty roads would work but would take them pretty slow.

From what I've read, yeah. As long as you arn't refilling it then hammering it through turns

The "figure 8 method" works even faster if you drive with your right eye closed while only using your left hand to steer. Oh, and you must have the radio cranked-up and tuned to a Tejano music station.
