So my '06 Z06 has the crappy NAV / audio system. While I don't worry about my tires having the original air, I'd like to keep the stock appearance. But I'd also like to be able to connect my iphone to the audio system. Newer C6s (starting in about '08) had a 6 CD player with a MP3 jack. So the upgrade I'm considering is just adding a newer C6 player. But, GM has added theft protection. The question is, can a Chevy dealer turn off the theft mode if a newer audio system is added?
Welcome to the forum. I too enjoy the stock dash look, but I will tell you that there isn't much of a change as you move up in C6 years. There are some changes after '08. Regardless, the VIN can easily be relearned into the new head unit at the stealer for about $100, or in about 4 steps if you have a Tech2Win interface. Some of the Kenwood units look fairly stock, and I actually saw a guy here in San Diego put a small aluminum "Corvette" badge over the "Kenwood", making it look remarkably stock. Me, I stick with mine simply because I like the HUD integration and the silly, retro-looking navigation. Kind of dumb, I know, but I use Waze for actual navigation, sitting in the cupholder...
You just need something like a gm pal to add aux in for bluetooth audio and such... There's several other brand versions that work as well. I had an Isimple one in my 2010. Worked great.

I have a software updated GM PAL in the ForSale section.... adds AUX phono cable as well as wireless bluetooth to the factory NAV system!
You can keep the factory look & convenience of your C6 stereo & steering wheel controls!!

The stock systems are so out dated compared to a good new aftermarket system. With a lot of the newer aftermarket systems you can add backgrounds that give it that stock look, and they are much more up to date functionality on connectivity wise, plus you'll hear much improved sound quality, even with the stock speakers. Here's a photo of my Pioneer system and the back ground I chose for it, you are only limited on back ground choices by your imagination. The only problem with going aftermarket right now is finding one as the virus slowed production of them to a standstill, but they're slowly starting to return. Here's a link showing what others have used for backgrounds on theirs, keep in mind this thread was started on 2007 so a lot of the pictures on the first few posts have since disappeared https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ds-thread.html
