Recently whatever senses day/night on instrument panel has gone wonkers. Dims during day the is bright at night. Now the tail lights do not work. Brake lights and reverse work fine. I'm going to check fuses, butif that is not it what should I look for?
It was the fuse . It was loose in the fuse box. Cluster dimmer problem persists. How hard is it to replace that fuse box under the hood? I have several loose holders that cause issues.
Shouldn't have any loose contacts in your fuse box unless they are excessively worn out or possibly burned & distorted. Take a look at this PIC and see the burned contacts. You wouldn't replace the entire fuse box for this, but rather pull the pin from the bottom and replace & re-solder it. Not sure this is exactly your problem. Also, the small sensor on your dash within the defroster grill is the day/night sensor, should you need to replace it.
