Default 2008 C6 Test Drive

I'm not a vette owner at this time, an old gezeer planning to retire in a couple years and hoping to pickup a nice C6 about that time. I owned a 78 C3 back about 40 years ago but kids, jobs etc required letting it go. I browse your forum trying to educate myself on the particulars of the C6 models.
Anyhow, last week driving past a local car lot I eyeballed this beautiful 2008 sitting in the front row. Made a U turn to take a closer look. Even though I'm not at the buying stage yet, nothing wrong with an early test drive, right? So it was a 2008 vert, Auto, 3lt, 49,000 miles asking $31,900. Has some mods: headers, mild cam and killer sound system. Enjoyed the test drive, drove nice, with the headers it was louder than I would enjoy. The dealer said the price was "negotiable". I was guessing it could be bought for around 30K which is probably in the ballpark of today's prices.
Thought I'd share this experience with the forum

.

Glad you got to enjoy a test drive. If you get to thinking you want the car, take a peek at the vehicle history report and have it checked out by a trusted mechanic. If you think it's loud now, there is a chance it might annoy you more after a while. NPP is a nice feature. Take a peek at the label inside the glove box for the NPP code(would make adding NPP to the car a little easier).

Good luck with your search. They are fun cars.

That's a pretty fair price in today's market, especially since it's got headers and exhaust already done. Nice find!

Nice....probably the only Crystal Red vert with cam and headers on the planet.

Nice car...it's parked over that curb, if you're serious get down there and look underneath, make sure that area is not scratched up or damaged. The radiator brackets are under there and can get damaged. That's the beauty of a front camera, you can see how close you are...good luck!

When I got my C6 I knew it was loud as wifey and I could not talk inside and forget the radio. So I changes mufflers. Better but not great. When I checked, I found almost NO insulation or sound deading materials anywhere. I am changing that. So I am not surprised by that too loud comment as my 81 was similar on no sound or insulation but that is a different Vette altogether and has been done.

Just curious what are you specific plans for installing insulation or sound deadening materials? I didn't ask or look at mufflers, so not sure what was under it. I think most of the roar was the headers. Actually, driving and riding the sound wasn't too bad. But I was standing behind it when he fired it up, was like being hit by a sonic boom.
