Hey guys, I have a base 2006 A6, just crossed 50k miles, should I have the tranny fluid changed now like the manual says or let it go alittle bit more? thanks

Manual says every 100k

or 50k if this applies:

(h) Change automatic transmission fluid and filter if the vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions:
• In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 90°F (32°C) or higher.
• In hilly or mountainous terrain.
• Uses such as high performance operation.

It's 15 years old, are you going to wait another 15 to get to 100,000?

Vehicle fluids are relatively cheap for preventative maintenance. I'd personally never drive more that 60,000 miles or max of 7- 8 years on factory trans & diff fluid, under non-extreme conditions.

Where will you take it for the work to be done? Is there a Corvette specialty shop near you? Do other auto repair shops know how to do it?

I found that this work is MUCH EASIER than I thought it would be. I do have a set of QuickJacks, however, which make any work a lot easier.
I have even checked the level with the engine running while I was under the car. No big deal. Regarding the circumstances that C6ToGo mentions, I have done all of that, I have 77,000 miles now, and I'm the third owner.
It was a no-brainer to decide that it must be done. I have not dropped the Pan nor changed the Filter, but I have flushed what is possible twice now, and will do it a third time soon.

And this Mity-Vac device takes care of the rest:

I would do it. That fluid, if it's still factory, is 15 years old. I know people like to go as far as they can on fluids but as I started buying vehicles with less miles to start, the more preventative fluid changes I started doing. I'm not sure how the C6 autos are but I would assume it's like any other and that I would just drop the pan, put a new filter in, and fresh fluids. My manual Vette I change the trans and diff fluid every 2 years myself. I know it's overkill but it's easy and not that expensive to never worry. I'm the same with my other vehicles as well. Good luck

Just had most of the fluids changed at the dealer ( 2 ) weeks ago. 14,500 miles on my A6 '10 GS.
Rear diff, trans, radiator coolant, intercooler, brake fluid, oil.
Figured it was time.

A little more to it than that. Anyone changing trans fluid in an A6 needs to do a search for the procedure. Since there is no dipstick you have to know how and when to add fluid. Its not as simple as just filling it up.

Yes, I see now after looking it up that it is definitely different than anything I've done but I just assumed people who would do it would look up in their manual the way it's done on something new to them, I always do. That being said, it is far from difficult to change it out.
thanks for bringing it up that it's different cause it gave me a chance to learn something new

I made the decision two weeks ago to change out all the fluids on my 2012 CE. I just passed 75K, am the 3rd owner, and looking at a record-breaking summer heat wave ahead. I was ready to do it myself when the dealer sent me a flier for 15% off any maintenance work. Way too hot here (115), so I let them do it. Cost was $770, and well spent for peace of mind, if nothing else. BTW, the A6 now shifts like butter...cannot feel the shift under light throttle. So glad I had this done.

Coolant flush/fill
Brake fluid flush/fill
Oil change
Power steering fluid change
Rear diff. fluid change
Trans. fluid change

I told them not to bother with the windshield washer fluid...

unfortunately it’s not like any other car. The A6 has 14qts of fluid and you need to flush out all the lines to do it right.
a good shop will have the correct tool to suck it all out. Or if your a DIY guy you’d have the correct pump for it.
I just had it done last week. I supplied all the fluids. Amsoil. And cost me 133.00. Diff was 75.00. Fluids cost the most with my discount was 287.00.

I could have gotten the power steering fluid done also and still saved $300 if it had mine done in your area vs the Mass / NH area.
