Default NPP Question

Long story but I recently had my NPP OEM mufflers powder coated. And the little NPP valve mechanism end is now not seated/has come loose. How does it connect? What secures that part (where I’m pointing in the pics) to that little stud so it will not come loose? Thanks in advance.

I believe it's a press fit from the factory. Did the shop pop it off in the process? Try pressing it on. It may or may not continue to be a problem as long as you have it.

Hope I am wrong, but don't think I am. If anyone else has better advice, I would like to hear it, as well.

I think @buckmeister2 is correct. Sorry mine is not clean.

Thanks to both buckmeister and MkenM. I was afraid of that. Again, long story and won’t go into it but not sure what I’m gonna do about this….I don’t have a tool that can press these on. Guess I’ll try some clamps.

Yes, I think they came off at the shop that did the powder coating. They were connected when I dropped them off. And this is a reputable place….they were trying to help me solve a problem (part of the long story) and I didn’t realize it until I got them home and started prepping to put them back on the car.

Appreciate both your comments and feedback, thank you.

Lowbuck72…..I can do some mechanic work and wish I could do welding, but unfortunately I do not. While I think I have a pretty decent set of tools and equipment, unfortunately no MIG welder. If you were in TN, I’d bring them to you and let you tack them for me!

Thanks,
Barry

My thought is that you could get by with using something like JBWeld. First use a small low speed grinder/wire wheel or file to clean off the powder coating on the inside and the outside of the mated surfaces, being careful to only remove the powder coating & not metal. Hopefully you would also have a slight "friction fit" to assemble the pieces using the JEBWeld product. Be sure to line up with the stop lever piece and then let sit for 24-48 hours to set and bond Be sure that you use the product sparingly and on the top side so you do not accidentally weld the piece to the base part of the unit. Hopefully that will work for you.

Thanks for the suggestion gdmoore01, I will definitely think about JBWeld as an option. I have never used JBWeld products but have read about them on this forum. Appreciate the info.

How hot does that part get? Would the JBWeld take the heat?

Is there enough room to get a couple of C clamps to hook underneath, one on each side? You could use a short piece of steel bar between the other end of the clamps to make a bridge that would press down on the lever to try to press it back down. Maybe even a large nut between the steel bar and the lever to force it down as far as possible.

You can get it tacked in many garages nearby I’m sure for very little cash. It would be a 5-10 min job. You also might be able to stake it.

If you still have the mufflers off the car, use a socket large enough to let the center pin to move up and use a hammer to “press” the racket down over the pin. Said another way, beat it in place like you would do a bearing, etc. If you have the room, you could also use the socket with a bar across the top and a couple of c-clamps to press it down. Just a thought.

Thanks all for responding, I appreciate the suggestions. I took them by a local performance shop that can fabricate anything and their guy tack welded it for me. They are back on the car and all is good! Drove my Vette to the office today and yesterday after about a 2+ month hiatus......LOVE this car! If any are interested, I posted some pics in the "what did you do to your vette this weekend" forum a couple days ago.
