Went with a NPP exhaust on my 07 base so I needed a way to open and close it, didn't want to tap into the electrical system, or have a solenoid or extra fob. Seen this 3 way valve on another post a few years ago so figured I would try it. First I broke off the cap on the nipple at the back of the manifold using a extra long,,, long nose pliers with a curved end, it was still a bit of a PITA!. I wanted the mufflers to stay closed in quiet mode when I floor it so I got a Motorcraft YG360 check valve and a Hunts tomato paste can to make a vacuum canister. Ran a 7/32" hose from the manifold to the check valve right above the brake booster then the hose goes to the 7/32 barb fitting epoxied to the home made vacuum canister. Then I ran 1/8" hose from the other 1/8" epoxied barb on the canister through the firewall opening for the hood release, I'm not using the stock rubber fire wall plug but a round grommet, the stock plug can still be used if you remove the system I just moved it out of the way. The 1/8" hose then goes to to a 3 way valve # 3R210 - 08 from eBay, I mounted the valve under the dash far right side by your knee, there is a bracket at the corner. From the out side of the valve you go back out the fire wall and use a coat hanger to kind of fish it down and through into the rocker panel. You can tuck it into the rocker all the way to the rear wheel well, remove the wheel and tuck it half way up the well where there is a opening. Then out to the back to a brass 1/8" tee to the mufflers. total cost is around $40. Valve is about $9, 25 feet of silicone hose $10, 6 feet of 7/32" hose $5, check valve $5, tee $5 .. assorted fittings $5.
Another way to go is to just run vacuum line straight to mufflers. They will remain closed in high vacuum times (light throttle pressure) but will open whenever throttle is hammered. You can’t open and close on demand like with a mild to wild kit, but it eliminates any electronics so no issues there. You could probably delay opening by adding a vacuum canister like OP made.
Just ordered the valve today (unfortunately takes almost a month from China), bought the tubing and will start with that. What a great alternative to spending $200 ! Hey Demon340, why don't you put together a kit and sell it for $100 !! You don't really even need the vacuum canister.
