Default Convertible top problem ?

I'm having a problem with the top on my 2007 Base convertible, it has a power top and it worked fine when i bought the Vette, (And I must admit, I don't put the top down very much) when I unlatch the top and push the down toggle switch, I get a warning "Unlatch Top to lower" yet the top is already unlatched, and If I push the front or the top up a foot or so, it starts to work Ok, but once down, and I hit the switch to put the top up, it goes up till the rear window needs to go down, it plops down and doesn't seem like it is controlled ? How do I go about adjusting the top (If that is possible) and what would have made it so incontrollable after sitting in the upright position for 6 months ?

Thank you,

Thank you,
Per the owner's manual, you'll need to push the top off of the lip a bit after unlatching, to get it to start going down. Otherwise it thinks its still latched. As far as the top getting caught halfway, do a bit of searching, and you'll find that there are two pull-straps that connect the glass end to the front end. When they wear and stretch over time, the cover wants to hit the glass on the way down. Pretty simple fix involving removing the lower strap screws and relocating them about 1/2" up the strap, so they're tighter, and pull the glass part closer to the front of the top, on top-up motion, alowing the cover to seat without drama.

FYI - I tried the strap shortening method on my top two years ago. This spring I had issues again and changed out the strap per another thread here. New strap used is much stronger than the factory strap. You have to be a contortionist to get in there! Good Luck!

On mine - one of the straps is broken. Now what ?

I just pull the top forward as it's going up so the tonneau doesn't hit the window portion of the top when closing.

I think many of of us older C6 owners (or owners of older C6s) have been doing this for years.

That's what I did until I bought a Wind Restrictor. Then it becomes very hard. So I shortened the straps about an inch. It was somewhat a PITA to get in there, get it done, and get it all buttoned back up. It was worth the effort as it has been working flawlessly for 4 years now.

I shortened mine about 0.5 inch as others had described. It didn't do anything on my car, the top still hit the tonneau cover going up and down. I shortened them more, over 1 inch, so there was some tension on the straps in the top partway down position. The cover still hits the top but not as hard (it almost clears). The straps seem fatigued to where the elastic doesn't have much stretch left. I don't mind drilling out the rivet ends to install new straps. I'm getting concerned that the part the hex screw goes into is going to strip its threads since I've had it in and out several times.

Anyone have a source for replacement strap assemblies? Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

I was able to purchase two sets of straps new from GM (I think they are out of production now) and when I replaced then the top still does not retract correctly. There seems to be an issue with the hinge point attached to the rear glass portion of the top. So I do as described and pull the top forward when raising and lowering.

I had some elastic added to an older set of straps and tried shortening the straps both of which did not work.
