Default Recent - Strange Behavior...

Hey guys it's 2008 Base, 40K miles. Recently seeing TWO strange behavior -
1) The car won't start (randomly) after I've been driving it. Example: I go to a store park it, then try to start it, it keeps jumping from Red to Orange Light on ignition, won't start immediately. I let it "cycle" through its bugs and try it again it starts. It'a a new RedTop battery, changed just last year. Car is usually garaged and on a battery charger.

2) After the car starts, the gear shifter doesn't want to get out of the Parking gear. I press the shifter button, brake pressed, and try to shift it, it doesn't wanna get out of P. I let it cycle for a few seconds, then try it again and it works fine.

What's going on...

For the shifter problem, start with this thread:

For the starting bugs, somebody with more info will need to help!

Good luck!

Electrical issues are usually from poor/corroded electrical connectors imho. I've had to chase down several on a low mile car that almost never even sees rain. I'd suggest disconnect & reconnect the battery, clean every ground you can get to, unplug & replug every major electrical connector you can find (while battery is disconnected). It won't hurt. Also, I turn the key to Start, pause a few seconds to let the car do it's little start-up dance, then turn to Ignition. Far fewer little glitches.
Good luck!

I think that both problems are related to your shifter being out of adjustment or worn.

You may want to have the starter connection at the solenoid checked. It's been known to work loose over time. That could cause the no start condition intermittently until it burns the connection and you'll have to replace the solenoid and maybe the starter as well.

I'll have to get under the car to check the wiring. I guess next time it goes on the rack for some service... I hardly drive it, barely has 40K + miles for a 2008.
