c6 spring vs c5 spring
I was having a hard time shifting smooth. Yes I have driven loads of stick shift cars. I found the clutch non linear and hard to shift smooth with. I read on this forum that if you install a c5 spring than shifting is more linear and easier to be smooth with. I put in a c5 spring and left it in for a couple weeks to get use to it. At first I was happy as it was more linear and easier to be smooth with. However, unfortunately I drive in Chicago expressway traffic. The c5 spring is significantly heavier to engage no matter what I read on this forum to the contrary. The c5 spring being heavy was not good in my driving and I switched back to the c6 spring. Much easier in traffic but now I'm back to a non linear feel. Oh well, I will get use to this and I'm sure I will get smoother. Maybe a c5 spring is better for folks that don't drive in heavy traffic.
I currently have a C5 spring installed; and have about 4K miles on it. When I first installed it, my first impression was that it felt firmer than the C6 spring, and much LESS LINEAR. I didn't like it. However, after using it for several thousand miles, it seems to have become less firm, and a more linear feeling. It feels pretty much the same as my C6 spring felt when I removed it. Or, should I say....the pedal doesn't feel any lighter than before.
Because the mod only costs about $20, it was worth a try. However, my recommendation would be not to bother unless your C6 spring has broken.
