Default Hvac?

Gonna lose my mind soon. 2006 base convertible. The hvac has a mind of its own. Ac is on and won’t shutoff. Sometimes it comes on when I want and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes I’m driving along with nothing on and it just comes on blasting full bore. Sometimes ac and sometimes heat. Sometimes the temp blinks and sometimes it doesn’t.sometimes air comes out of all the vents and sometimes it moves around to different vents all on its own. 😡🤬. You get the idea. This has been on going for 2 years. Had it to the dealer last and of course it didn’t do it. Soooo where do I start. Love the car in every way but this is reallly getting to me. Tia

It could be the HVAC Control module that is the root of the problem. Although not a prevalent issue, some have had cold solder joints on the control circuit of the unit.
The C5 had these same issues, and many took the controller apart, and resoldered the joints and all worked again.
Some have done the same to the C6 Module as well, and fixed the issue as you mentioned.

I guess I’ll have to pull the unit out. Any recommendations of who fixes these or to take a look?

You can buy a used one on EBay very reasonably.

I had the issue on my C5. I have a buddy with a temperature controlled soldering iron and he hit the joints for me. A friend of mine took his to a speedometer shop and they did the soldering.
I would not attempt it with a cheap solder gun/iron.

Gotcha. Are these units plug and play? Whether I pull and replace or fix it does anything have to get reset? Thanks

I had a similar issue with my 2007 ... ended up being the interior temp sensor (below the start button). Was full of dust (which I blew out, but it had allowed moisture to corrode the thermistor). Replaced it ($50 on Amazon) and everything works great now. Sophisticated little unit ... has its own fan to blow air across the sensor.

Interesting. I would be inclined to take a good look at that before pulling the console apart.
As for plug n play there is no reset/relearn necessary.

There is a little grill under the start button. Not sure how it comes off. Probably just pops off...

The grill itself is not removable. I removed the knee panel under the dash (two screws and pull careful) and that lets you get to it from below. Once you get hold of the sensor, it is a quarter turn one way or the other to free it from its mount. There is enough wire on it to drop it far enough to look at it and clean it (or replace it). GM part number is 20763145 (at least for my 2007)

So today ac is blowing full bore for no reason. But when I turn the passenger side temp control **** it will adjust the fan speed. Lol

How did you narrow down the problem to this sensor? I'm having my HVAC module in my 2007 act crazy, I might have to buy a refurbished main HVAC control panel online. It would be great simply to replace this sensor, if I could narrow down the problem to just that. Thanks ahead of time for any advice.

Just saw your other thread about hvac unit. This sensor is easy to get to. Pry the plastic panel off below where the sensor is( to the left of start switch). Next ON my 2012 there is an aluminum kick plate, held on by 4 screws just below the steering wheel. Take those out and just reach up, turn it half turn or so and it will com out. I also will do this first before I drop $$ for the refurbished HVAC unit.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give this a try tomorrow.
BTW I bought my 07 new and the HVAC module died after about five years; I replaced it with a new GM unit, which is the one now dying in my car --- which is why I'm reluctant to buy a used unit on eBay.
