Well boys and girls I learned a lot and fuel tank is back in. Also figured out my idle issue and why bank 2 fuel trim was off.
Aem gage makes a huge difference when it comes to getting proper parameters out to make sure my C6 is running good.
I hear ya, it’s not a fun project but can save you a ton.
important element here is it can be done on a4,A6 and M6 without removing anything but wheel, inner wheel liner and axle back exhaust.

FYI…..long story here but just had all this done by the dlr. final cost, $4125. They did have to pull both tanks because of bad gas and the car sitting for long periods without use. As I said a long story.
There is a ton of labor (especially with an auto trans) required to remove the tanks to get to the affected parts, a dealer would typically charge 3k+ to perform this job
That is insane but I would like to hear the story. If it was just old gas or a leak combined with other issues.
Well…..the Readers Digest version ……Came across 2007 base coupe M6 with 10K on the clock but absolutely loaded and in mint condition for sale at a Tucson AZ dlr. Anyway, drove it home in Phoenix (100 miles) with no issues. However, the first time I really got on it the fuel pump went out. I had owned the car for 14 days at this point. Had it towed to a Chevy dlr in Temple who was owned by the same outfit who sold me the car in Tucson.
They diagnosed it as no fuel pressure. The tech pulled out the left tank and found it varnished and (according to him) the fuel pump fell apart in his hands. Pulled the right tank and found the same problem. So he cleaned out both tanks, installed new pumps, r&r’ed all fuel lines up to the fuel rail. This was all due to the car not being maintained …and not cared for while sitting. As I side bar, I have changed out ALL fluids including power steering fluid.
I bought the car "as is without warrantee". That said, I was able to work out a deal with the dlr so it paid much less than the $4125 bill. I also bought the non-program dlr warrantee as there may be a harmonic balancer or torque tube problems down the road. The moral here is drive your car or at least do your do-diligence before storing it. Ask me how I know.
