I recently purchased a key fob from eBay as I was only provided with one at time of vehicle purchase. I went thru the short version of the fob programming and the process was uneventful....except that this new fob is recognized as Fob #4.
I know that I can reprogram both my existing fobs to be recognized as #1 and #2 but before I do that, I have a specific question about a fob recognized as #4.
I have read that fobs #3, and #4 do not have certain functions such as seat memory recall, but should fob #4 remotely open the trunk? I did not see any info in the manual regarding this.
I was looking to avoid the entire 30 minute 'relearn' process, but I would like to have two working fobs designated as Fob 1 and Fob 2. After that process, if the trunk button doesn't work on the newly purchased Fob, I'll know its the Fob itself.

There's nothing about a fob recognized as #4 that would prevent it from opening the trunk. I've got 4 programmed fobs, and all the buttons that should work work on them do, including the hatch button. You can try the long procedure and reassign the fobs to 1 and 2, but I don't see why that would help, but you never know. My guess is either the contacts need to be cleaned on the new fob, or it's defective for that button.

Thanks. That pretty much confirms it. I'm going to try the longer version just to see if I can get the trunk button to work. If not, I'll at least have a #1 and #2 Fob. I'll have to decide if I really need a trunk remote on the spare. I'm replacing the trunk release button near the key hole per step by step instructions I found here on the forum, which will eliminate the need for the remote buttons function pretty much.
You won't be able to change anything in the DIC (ie: welcome message) with 3 or 4.
That’s partly true. You can enter the car with whatever programmed fob you want and then select and recall the options for driver 1 or 2 by using the button on the driver’s door. You can change and save those settings as you wish. Those settings will stay in play until you switch off and exit the car and close the door.
