I had a fuel pump go bad and had the dealer install a new one. They have had the car for over a week now for something they said would take about 8 hours. They now tell me the delay is they are waiting for parts, which I assumed had something to do with the new pump. Being tired or the run around I pressured them as to what "part" they were waiting for and they said the battery cable. I believe this is something I can purchase at any auto store unless I am missing something. I have read different things about what to use. One said a cable from the battery to the starter, another said the cable should have pigtails on the end, going to the starter, alternator and ground. Can anyone give me some advice what I need to buy with specifics such as gauge, etc?
Thanks
Modern car battery cables are a little more involved than the ones sold at your local auto parts store.
Might check online GM parts suppliers. Search 20835504
This part is out of stock all over the country. My dealer can't get it yet. It's made in China, so maybe when all those boats stuck off shore get to dock we'll be able to get it. If GM discontinued this part, that's going to be a problem!
Did you search as suggested or rely solely on the word of your local dealer? There are DOZENS of sites that let you get to checkout with the order. Doesn't necessarily mean that it is in stock....but is a good start:
What does the battery cable have to do with replacing the fuel pump other than probably disconnecting it? Did the dealership somehow break it? Probably all it needs is to have the terminals on each end replaced.
The car has a slow drain it before and I told them to track down the cause of the short. They determined the drain was caused by the bad readings from the battery cable. Nothing to do with the pump. Thanks
OP, I just went through this myself a couple of months ago and 20835504 is the right cable...however it took me about 10 hours on the phone over the course of a week and $170 including shipping to find one in stock! The good news is it did solve my "my push, click, no start" issue.
Here is the link to my thread...I need to go back and update it with my results:

Went through this with my ‘08. Connectors we’re all good but cable was corroded internally. Replaced and no drain since. Took my dealer 4 days to find one and that was before all the supply issues. Good luck in your search.
@C6ToGo I called the SDPC - their website showed it in stock but when I called it wasn't. I'm going to follow up with the other links you included. Thanks for listing them. @AZ_DSOM where did you end up finding one? was it long ago?

Think it was more a matter of luck that they had one on the shelf: Bradley Chevrolet, 711 N Lake Havasu Ave, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403, (928) 208-4533
How can I tell if the battery cable is defective/corroded internally, I have located one but want to know if old one is bad before I go at out $150.00 for a new one and not need it, thanks for any info. Topkat 75, I have had battery tested was good, replaced ign switch and ign relay, and had steering column lock removed, still just clicks above it every third day, keep poking it and it will finally start.
