First message comes to the display is "reduced engine power" after like 10 seconds "service traction control" ...had a code this morning c0242-00 ...any suggestions?
Quite honestly, my knowledge is none. I was just quoting from an earlier thread that listed the error codes.
Hopefully, others here can be of more help. Lots of things I learned from owning 5 different C6s, but that's not one of them.
I feel you lol ...mine does that after starting it ... during driving I plug the Zurich scanner and deleted the codes ..c0242-00...p2068 ...at least for now no traction control light and reduced engine power
This DTC won't tell you what is wrong. Is just a message sent from PCM stating that something happened with the traction control.:
DTC C0242
Circuit Description
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) and the powertrain control module (PCM) simultaneously control the traction control. The EBCM sends a serial data message to the PCM requesting torque reduction. When certain PCM DTCs are set, the PCM will not be able to perform the torque reduction for traction control. A serial data message is sent to the EBCM indicating that traction control is not allowed.
DTC Descriptor
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC C0242 Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Indicated TCS Malfunction
Conditions for Running the DTC
• The ignition is ON.
• Ignition voltage is greater than 8 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The PCM diagnoses a condition preventing the engine control portion of the traction control function and sends a serial data message to the EBCM indicating that torque reduction is not allowed. The PCM will typically set a DTC and the EBCM will set this DTC.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
If equipped, the following actions occur:
• The EBCM disables the traction control system (TCS)/vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) for the duration of the ignition cycle.
• The Traction Control and Active Handling indicator turns ON.
• The driver information center (DIC) displays the following messages:
- Service Traction System
- Service Active Handling
• The antilock brake system (ABS) remains functional.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• The condition for the DTC is no longer present and the DTC is cleared with a scan tool.
• The EBCM automatically clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.
Diagnostic Aids This DTC is for information only. As an aid to the technician, this DTC indicates that there are no problems in the ABS/TCS system.
As documented many times here on the Forum, batteries seem to be at the root of most problems. You might consider replacing the battery and then clearing all the codes. Then see what codes and or issues pop back up. Most electrical issue troubleshooting is a process of trial and error checking one thing at a time which can be lengthy and sometimes frustration.
How old is your battery, my 05 throws codes when the battery is starting to fail.
I also found out my 05 sit in the garage for month, and it fires right up, so I know I have problems.
My 05 eats batteries every 28 months needs new battery, electric has been checked many times all is good.
I always get good warranty on batteries with free replacements.
So check your age of the battery?
Mine is like 3 months old but is not a great quality one (Walmart) lol no cause I'm cheap is cause they have 3 years free replacement ...last night I sprayed some electronic cleaner on the terminals ...cables ...grounds etc so far after stop and go driving in the morning and got no more issues ...for now lol thanks a lot for taking the time to respond

I couldn't agree more brother ...weak battery can pop up a lot of frustration and codes ...cause every electrical component needs the right voltage in order to work ...another thing I see is the inside lights flickering when the car is idling...a bad alternator can cause some issues and codes too
