Hi. New guy here. I'm 71 years old and about to buy my first corvette - a 2007 one owner with 83000 miles. The carfax shows that it was serviced regularly, but there are a couple things that concern me. At 70,000 the rack and pinion was replaced. At 72,000 the power steering pump, water pump, front crankshaft oil seal, and crankshaft pulley/balancer were all replaced. I didn't see any mention that the transmission had been serviced. Is this normal for this vehicle? I'm not buying the extended warranty as it is rather pricey. Should I be wary of this car?
It is possible that the HB issue also caused the steering rack issue as well if it crept that way. As long as all that work was done correctly, shouldn't be an issue going forward. If you can get a GM VIS report from a dealer service dept, that may help.
I replaced my water pump at 30k miles due to a seal leak. I now have 112k miles on the clock.
Having a new harmonic balancer is a very good thing. Like noted above, if the original balancer failed, it could damage the steering rack. Nothing to worry about now that they have been replaced. My 2007 is the most reliable car I have ever owned (after replacing the balancer)
Buy it and add another 100,000 miles to it.
I didn't see any mention that the transmission had been serviced. Is this normal for this vehicle?
Service interval for trans fluid change is 100k for normal service and 50k for severe service (city driving in 90 deg+, hills, performance driving). No mention of years.
So should be ok...I would change it soon after purchase.
SamR, I have same year, 88k miles. Mine has had similar repairs, not to worry. I'd consider transmission maintenance, I noticed the difference right away.
Best money I spent on the car when I got it was new tires and alignment, like new car!
I have a 2007 with 103k miles. It has had the harmonic balancer and water pump replaced recently. The transmission was slipping and the dealer changed the fluid. That was at 90k miles.
If it's an automatic make sure the transmission upshifts smoothly in the lower gears.
The other issues you mentioned should be ok as long as done correctly as previously stated.
