I second the suggestion to get an AGM battery, especially for C6s with batteries mounted up front. The white crusty stuff on conventional batteries falls down onto the BCM harness and over time can do a number on the wires inside.
That's the main reason I bought the AGM. Too many horror stories in C5 and C6, although I haven't seen any for a while. The typically higher CCAs and reserve capacity are additional benefits for AGM.
WalMart is fine cause it is easier to find a store for replacement when you are out on the road stranded. Used to do Advance Auto when they offered a $50 off coupon. Just got an AGM for my Jeep....Walmart was $50 cheaper than everyone else.
Name brand means very little with auto batteries.....as seen in this chart. As you see, there a two companies that dominate. There used to be a third, Delphi Corporation, but it sold its automotive battery business to Johnson Controls in 2005.
Brand - Manufacturer
ACDelco - Johnson Controls
Advance Auto - Johnson Controls
Autolite - Exide
AutoZone - Johnson Controls
Bosch - Johnson Controls
Champion - Johnson Controls
Costco - Johnson Controls
Delco - Johnson Controls
Delco-Remy - Exide
DieHard - Johnson Controls
Duralast - Johnson Controls
EverStart (Wal-Mart) - Exide or Johnson Controls, depending on model
Interstate - Johnson Controls
NAPA - Exide
Optima - Johnson Controls
Pep Boys - Johnson Controls
Wal-Mart - Exide or Johnson Controls, depending on model
I'm sorry, but I don't trust anything from WalMart that plugs in, much less one of their batteries. I'll stick with the ones that have proven themselves over decades. They're well known for having cheap crap throughout the store. I'm not putting anything from a bargain store in my Corvette. May as well buy a battery from Dollar General.
Everstart is under the same umbrella company who owns and manufactures Optima. Clarios, formerly Johnson Controls, makes batteries for all of these brands. I would be surprised if there was that much variance between them. Testing shows everstart batteries perform well. Why not save $100?
Timely thread... my car had been plugged in using a battery tender since mid-December. I took it off the tender and it fired right up last night. Drove a short distance, shut it off, and it was already dead. Thinking I have a dead battery that had just enough juice right off the charger to start it up but not enough to store a charge longer than that. Voltage read fine while driving so I think the charging system is ok. I was having battery issues before I plugged it in in December, it was draining faster than normal.
Which battery size group is used for the trunk-mounted C6? I checked the manual and some other threads and can't find exactly which battery to get.. T5/90 seems wider but shorter than 85. 35 is about the same as 85 just taller. I'm seeing recommendations for all three and 35 is much cheaper. Will any of these fit?
Editing the post for future readers: I went with another T5 battery for my trunk-mounted battery. Everstart from Walmart. $150, 3 year warranty, nice fit.
