Differential Question
Is there a difference in a Limited Slip Performance rear diff. in a GS and a Limited Slip rear diff. in a base coupe? One is a 2.73 and one is a 2.56, I get the different ratios but the "performance" word has got me wondering if there is a difference between the two, different ratios notwithstanding. Recently got out of a C5 and looking at moving to C6. Thanx...

Yep, since all the Diffs in the C6 clutch packs on both sides (same packs for all diffs), to make is a limit slip differential.
So there are different gear ratios in the diffs, and on the Z06 and ZR1 diff, some of the internal parts are made stronger, to hold up to the increased power that then models make over the stock models.
Also to point out, depending on the model, there are different trans gearing as well. Hence all the trans final drives will catch up to each other by top gear, but on the autocross and high speed road course models trans, the lower gears are lower than that in the base cars.
And one last thing, remember that the pinon gear is hanging way the hell out on the end of theTrans output shaft unsported, so you can only bang so hard on the differ before you either crack the diff case, or crack the trans output shaft.
So no, you can not throw the kind of power you can can at a built spooled Ford 9" diff, at a build C6 diff, and have it survive.
