You can clear with a scan tools from Auto Zone or another parts places. But it will just tell you the code.
in order to diagnose the problem, you will need a Tech 2 or the VX Diag clone.
The VX Diag clone is a real chore to get working. Took me three months to get the computer setup so it would communicate with the car. GM has stopped using the .dll file that makes it work.
Some messages can be acknowledged and removed from the display by pressing the reset button. I’d try that first. If the message disappears but then comes back it would suggest that the oil temp sensor is bad.
You can display the oil temp on the DIC. What temp is displayed when you get this message?

I just purchased a GM Nano and had it set up on my old cheap laptop and then used it to pair 2 Nav units in less than 1 hour. Works flawlessly.
There is a great you tube video that details the set up instructions to a tee.
It's a must have for any GM owner that does any work on his vehicles.

Must be nice. Dano had to mail me a clone of his Virtual Machine on a flash drive before we could get mine to work.

I got lucky. I had been in contact with Dano prior to my purchase, and asked him many questions including if my older 32 bit Vista 7 with 2 GB of ram would be Ok, and he assured me that it would be. Dano's posts on the subject were my go to reading prior to ordering the Nano, so I thought that I could do it. He offered his help via PM if I needed it. I also found the video which helped as well. What would we do without Dano? He is such a wealth of knowledge.
Get yourself an OBD tool. Worth the investment if you do any kind of work yourself....especially on an older car.
Minimum: OBD code reader-reads and erases DTC codes $20
Good: CAN-enabled OBD scan tools- read/erase with usually a description of the code...plus some live data capabilities $40
Better: OBD scan tool with ability to read SRS (airbag) and ABS (brake/traction) DTC codes $100
Best: Tech 2 or equivalent. Specific for GM cars. As above plus much more including ability to test and command the multitude of modules in a C6 Mine was $250...NANOs are less
I own one of each of these. Started out simple and moved up. Better to start with a good one.
No OBDII codes or check engine light. Scrolling through the DIC window it say's high oil temp. I just received a new sender this afternoon, installing it tomorrow. Will let you know.
So I dug into it again today before I replaced the sensor. Previous owner had started a HUD install so I thought I would double check the wiring. Incorrect wire to the High Oil Temp wire. Fixed that and now the DIC says check oil level & low oil temp so I might be back to R&R the sensor. HUD is a sweet add-on, still trying to figure it out. Will not come on in the the bright sun, works in the garage. Any ideas? Thanks!
Since you just bought it I would do new oil and filter. Pull battery leave disconnected for 30 minutes. Drive it for 100 miles check all codes. Sensor might not be needed.
