Default Check Engine/Reduced Power

Hello all from suburban Chicago. Had an issue this morning and was wondering if anyone has an insight. Car is a 2013 GS with about 44,000 miles.

While out running errands, out of the blue. Check Engine/ Service Active Handling and Reduced Power pop up on the dash. Power was reduced.

Parked went it and did my shopping and came out and started fine and the only light still on is Check Engine! Power had returned and I got home without incident.

Battery is at full charge and is just under 14 volts on the gage.

Anyone have a similar experience and if so how did it play out? I don't have a code reader.

Thanks for any insight!!

RJ

Really need to know the codes that are present. Drop by your nearest auto supply store that can put a code reader on the OBD2 port and then post the code(s) so you can obtain assistance from the forum.

For me, it was a bad gas pedal. Something in the electronics when this part goes bad, you get the codes and symptoms you reported. Maybe someone else can give a better explanation. Happened on my 2011 GS at about 50K miles. Hope it helps!

Went back out and started the car, no warnings or alerts showing and even the check engine light is now gone!!! Car is back to full power etc.???

Will watch it closely going forward and see if I can pull a history code.

RJ,

I am not one that is a believer in mystery problems resolving themselves. Hopefully, there are some historical codes to pull that will lead to the origination of the symptoms you experienced. Don't want to see you stranded somewhere at the least desirable time.

Take care...GD

Everybody should have an OBD2 code reader.

How old is the battery, I was getting false codes with two year old battery, replaced and never gone another one.

I agree with this assessment. I had the exact same experience, and it was the battery. I have discovered that many Corvette "gremlins" can be traced to the battery.

Without knowing the codes you have nowhere to start. Very unlikely the problem corrected itself, its still there it just hasn't hit whatever condition originally set it yet. You need to get a read on what codes you have before you start throwing parts at it. Reduced engine power can be tripped by a ton of different things.

Had this happen a couple of times on my S/C 07........I found that the TPS plug at the throttle body was slightly loose, and the connections were dirty. As someone wrote previously in this post, the same thing can happen with the gas pedal assembly connections that can set off the reduced power mode. Yes, get the codes first, then attack the cause of the problem. Replacing the gas pedal assembly is inexpensive but a PITA to install but very doable.......good luck!

Many possibilities, here.
ONCE w/ my relatively new '06 went into reduced power, ran like crap.
Dealer p/uc, had to wait for their veteran wrench to return from vacation.
Meanwhile, one of dealer's 'kids' checked, could not locate an issue.

Vet wrench returned & got down & dirty.
Using a mirror & flashlight finds a one-off problem.
Plug wire came lose from bracket welding itself to header.
Could not see w/o really getting-in there.
Voila, new plug wire & good to go.

Weird one-off issues the most difficult to isolate.
Vet wrench's strategy?
Carefully LOOK, especially in/at locations not visible.

Well, thanks for the input and I was able to pull the code on my issue.

Code is P2122 APP sensor low voltage.

Anyone have any more input? Is this a dealer fix? I have no problem with that but just looking for more input.

Thanks

Pulling that code helps to narrow down the source of the problem. The C6 uses a fly-by-wire throttle, all electronic. and points to a problem with either the pedal sensor, TPS or wiring in between. I have attached a couple of threads that included a second code, but was resolved by replacing the pedal sensor assembly and a second that provides some diagnostic procedures. You could locate a local Corvette service center that could trouble-shoot for you, so you do not just replace parts in an attempt to fix.

Good luck and post your fix when you find it.
