While at a car show yesterday a friend was admiring my splitter.
As we talked, he asked me if I thought about installing a tow hook.
Initially I thought he was kidding, given that I don’t track the car.
He went on to say he was serious, given the future chance the car might
have to towed for a repair. He pointed out that without a hook, potential front end
damage might be done.
Thoughts on his suggestion? Is a hook really necessary?
You don’t need one. There are holes in the frame for jacking points that a competent tow truck driver will use to hook it low without any damage to the splitter. Just make sure you let the tow company know it’s a corvette they’re coming to tow.
By your rationale, every C6 needs a tow hook. I say "no"
Splitter damage is riskiest when getting loaded on a rollback or some other kind of wrecker. Don't think a tow hook will help with that. IMO.

Believe me - adding a hook is not something I'm looking to do.
Wanted some feedback on a friends suggestion.
I do agree - I don't think one is necessary.

I agree that that the tow hook if not tracked will only be handy if you have to be tow on a flat bed.. but that one time you will be glad you have it. Besides GM realized with the C7 to incorporate a tow hook attachment point on the car.
well, I do track the car and first thing I did was add brake ducting and since the bumper was off anyway (first of many times), I added a screw-in tow hook as a matter of course.
I think this may well be the only car I've owned that didn't have one...I thought because of the aluminum frame. But steel frame C6s don't have one either.
Anyway, its handy to winch the car on my trailer.
It's good to know that a competent flat bed operator can get the car up wothout using one...although in my case, with the current protruding splitter, it would be an issue
Obviously, i remove it on street, lest it be the first point of contact if bumped.
All the young guys in my neighborhood driving Asian imports with silly exhausts have tow hooks added and painted red. I've never noticed a tow hook on a 'Vette. Understand if tracking though.

Your friend is a fool. The vette has holes in the frame for this. The splitter is likely to be damaged from the approach angle, a tow hook won't help with that
Bringing this thread back to life as I'm helping set up my Fathers '07 3LT for weekly therapy duties. I'm wondering if I install the ZL1 Lift Pads (4) is there another grab point for a tow cable in the unfortunate event the car needs to be flat bedded? My C5 is a track car that has tow hooks front and rear. That would be a tough sell to my Dad as he's really liking the clean, stock look of his recently purchased C6.
