Hi... I have a 2012 C6 Grand Sport where the nose of the Grand Sport is only 5 1/2 inches off the ground... I recently replaced the nose splitter and I don't want to ever bump one of these concrete blocks in parking lots. To help ensure that, I need a way to add a small forward looking camera and some way to see it in the driver's seat. I don't want to replace the Nav system... Instead I want something where I might even have to look at say my iPhone to see video from some camera... What is out there that I can buy where I might tiewrap a small camera to the front grill and where I can see the image in the car as I pull into some parking lot... What do I buy that could do that for me??? thanks...
Thanks... I've considered Curb Alert before... was it hard to get the cable/wire all the way into the passenger compartment??? Through what area did you run the wire that comes inside??? firewall or what??? thanks again...
Maybe something like this. I don’t have one but good reviews
EWAY WiFi Wireless Backup Camera for iPhone and Android, Rear/Front View Camera for Car Truck SUV Pickup Trailer Van Rv Camper, Guide Lines On/Off
This one is cheaper and since it’s only for curb watch this should be fine.
Fumei HD 720p WiFi Camera Wireless Backup Camera for Car with APP Intelligent Video Recording/Sharing Forward-Looking Camera Compatible with Android and iPhone/iPad(2nd Generation)
There is a you tube video that explains it. Basically there is a gap between fender and windshield leading into the door jamb. On the passenger door sill there is a removal section which can be popped off to bring the wire into the fuse box area under the passenger foot area.
They say you can plug it into the fuse location for the heated seat location and the seats will still work. Not so on my 2013 GS. Left there for now until I can fisgure out another location that will work.
If you haven't upgraded your head unit, it's one of the best things I've done and added front/rear and dash cams integrated into the HU. Easy install also.
Say more if you would.. Was your upgrade to a Kenwood system I used to hear about that would give me forward and rear looking cameras but at the cost of some of the HU display features that I wasn't willing to lose... But that was years ago and maybe you're talking about something else??? Can you say more??? Model number and did you install yourself or have someone else install??? thanks...
I went with a Kenwood DMX9906S (this was in late 2019) - there is an updated version now if you can get it and kenwood cameras. There are cheaper cameras out there but I wanted all KW. Ordered from Crutchfield pre-wire service and their PAC and I did install myself. Lots of great info here on forum and youtube videos, was really not that hard at all.
Google tells me there is a DMX906S (one less "9" than in your number above???)... Did you impact or lose your Heads Up display capability with this Kenwood device??? Thought I'd heard from times gone by that some of the HU capability went away... I doubt I would be courageous enough to install myself as I'm not very good mechanically... But maybe... Thanks for the input...
Yes, - DMX906S. The music info is no longer on the HUD and honestly, that is a good thing. Wireless carplay and 100% improved performance from stock speakers far outweigh the HUD. I'm glad it's gone from the HUD.
