Default 4 Speed Automatic Upgrade

I just got an 06' convertible, and the biggest difference I notice between it and the Infiniti I just got rid of is the rolling punches in my Q were a lot quicker than this car, and I can only attribute that to the 6 speed automatic that it had.

I know this is a 4-speed tank of a transmission, but is there any way to upgrade to the 6 speed automatic?

06? Need to verify your number of gears or model year of car.

06+ has A6 with shifter button in front and paddle shifters on wheel.

05 has A4 with push button shifter.

I think a mail order tune would probably be the best option. I bought hptuners and the car is so much better after adjusting the downshift points to happen sooner. Also turning up the pressure and lowering torque management.

I’m a little confused as to how one could not know you have a four-speed or a six speed automatic transmission. Is the gear selection for the shifter on the center console identical between the two??

I see the difference now. This must be what the six speed looks like. I’m curious what the S stands for…

Ah. That would’ve been my next guess. I figured it had something to do with the paddles.👍

Did they make a change in how the paddle shift works? In my ‘11, the paddles work all the time, but it won’t stay in a gear if you shift up or down if the selector is in D. If you maintain a steady speed, the programming takes over, and it shifts into the normal gear for that load and speed. The behaviour in Sport mode is different. The tranny won’t auto shift. You need to use the paddles for every gear change.

Look at the RPOs on the list in your glove box. There should be an MX0 for the 6 speed paddle auto trans.

That doesn't sound right. My 07 Sport mode shifts normally UNTIL you use the paddle for the first time. Your gear selection shows up on the DIC at that point. Then you have to paddle shift until you put in back in D.

Yes, that’s how mine works. What I was trying to say was that the selector doesn’t need to be in S for the paddles to work.

OP when you say rolling punches I assume you mean from a roll. Are you shifting the car yourself or are you letting it downshift? If so are you giving it all the throttle or just partial? Are you in sport or drive? Trying to diagnose if you have a problem or just need to learn the correct way to shift the car. An LS2 Vette should feel substantially faster than an infinity q... even with a problem.

For starters the OP needs to figure out if he has a 4 speed(05) or a 6 speed(06). That would be a starter. Lol
but I guess he said it’s an 06.
I just find it hard to believe he didn’t know if it was a 4 or 6 speed. Wonder if this is a troll 😈. Lolol.

No Infiniti should be anywhere near as fast as your vette. Unless you had a modded red sport 400, then MAYBE.
