Planning on replacing my Driver 1 remote. I've read the owner manual and have one question. Should I use driver 1 remote to program the replacement. Second will it automatically program it as driver 1 ? I know I need to turn the key 5 times to activate the programing mode.
When you program a new remote it will assume the next slot which will be 3. So you will have a 2 and 3 fob. The only way to have 1 and 2 is to wipe memory and program them from the start.
The fob programming procedure that has been posted here in the past has 2 different procedures described. One procedure just programs the new fob as the next fob number. The other procedure wipes out all fob numbers and starts over programming as fob 1, then fob 2, etc.
Remember that only fob 1 and fob 2 can program the car options.

Only driver profile 1 or 2 can change and save options. Profile 1 or 2 can be selected from the button on the driver's door regardless of which fob is used to open the door.
I had to replace my RCDLR and had purchased a new 1 and 2 fob since the dealer had to reprogram that. I use my old #1 as #3 and marked it as a spare when I reprogrammed it. My original #2 would not program at all and was not worth keeping so it went to fob heaven.

Reason: spelling
Be sure to turn the key all the way for the 5 times. Otherwise repeat process.
Actually, it’s looking for any 5 turns within any 5 seconds, so a good trick here is to turn it at least 5 times. I had success with 8 or 9 twists. Once it enters programming mode the extra turns are ignored.
Thanks so much this place is always helpful. The reason I wanted to replace the driver 1 Key Fob transmitter is mine is cracked just the case of course it was my fault I dropped it. It works just fine. Purchased an OEM GM # 25926479 from Ebay for $99.00 I really wanted to keep driver 1 so I'm go to just switch my transmitter into the new case and keep the new transmitter for a spare.

I tried this but had a fail, everything works ok mostly but have some memory from the previous drivers sneak back in and resets all the radio channels and seat positions! I can't get rid of them, not sure, maybe ghosts?

Sound like you are doing something that causes one of the other driver options profiles to be selected, because things like radio presets, seat and mirror settings, metric/English units are saved in those profiles. There's a profile for driver 1, driver 2, and a default profile which you cannot modify. Not sure if the default profile has any radio presets. In your situation, if you only want one driver profile, then figure out which one it is. When you start the car, the welcome message on the DIC should tell you which driver # you've been handed. If that's the one you want, press and hold the driver options button on the driver door for the other profile until it beeps. Now you've saved the current options to the other profile. If it's not the profile you want, select the profile you want by briefly pressing the driver's door button for that profile. All those settings should come into play. If they do, then, once again, press and hold the driver's door button for the profile you want to overwrite.
If the ghosts persist after this, you might want to reboot everything by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnecting it. I'll leave the usual suspects tell you to reindex the windows if you disconnect the battery.
