I have a question on Mobil 1. I drive about 1200 miles per year. I store the C6 4 months. Do I need to replace the oil every year?

GM says to replace when the Oil Life Monitor approaches 0% or every 12 months, whichever comes first.
I put about 5000 miles per year on mine and since it is older, I don't have a problem changing mine about every 18 months. Usually about 25% life left.

Not sure how winter storage affects need to change and when. Not much of that in Houston. Other can chime in on that.

Suggestion: Be a little more descriptive in the title of your threads. Get more help that way.

It kind of comes down to how safe you feel riding on “old” oil. Even if it’s not that well used, sitting can still have an effect to some degree. I don’t know that I would want to use my LS3 as a testing bed for whether or not it makes a difference.

long story short, I always change the oil in my vettes at minimum yearly regardless of low mileage.

better safe than sorry and all that.

Have you ever seen a ‘best if used by date’ on motor oil?
Rather than seek ‘opinions’ I would suggest due diligence on investigating relevant/documented recent research.
On the other hand, an oil change is cheap insurance keeping everything safe.

In your use personally I would change it every two years. I have an ATV with very similar amount of use and that is what I do with it. There will be a lot of different answers for this one.

Good points. On the vette I change my oil every 5000 miles which usually equates to18 months. On my pickup I change oil every 5000 miles regardless of time.
OP, you have a 2005 (17 years old) and the total miles are ??? For peace of mind use an oil sampling service to see what your oil is really like.

With an oil change only costing me about $65 I do it once every year, since I don't hit the miles. Why not just do it every year, your car will thank you.

This has been a great debate on how often to change oil. I change the oil in every vehicle I own every 3000 miles. My vette never hits that mileage in a year so I change it at the beginning of each season. May be overkill for some but that is how I roll.

Did the Blackstone Labs thing about 3 oil changes ago. I can't find the report, but I sent the sample after I changed the oil at 5,700 miles and 12 months. The only real note was that the oil could be run longer. And this is with moderate tracking of the car 5+ times a year.
