window regulator install problem...HELP!

window regulator install problem...HELP!
I installed my new drivers side window regulator, not too difficult. However, when I test it with the glass in or out, it only goes up halfway. Sounds very smooth, no clunks, no hesitation, but only goes up halfway. I have felt all around each cable and everywhere to be sure there is no obstruction. Any ideas??

The only issue I had when I did mine was I discovered that the door had to be closed to operate the window.
It did not operate at all with the door open.
I did the window index procedure and it worked perfectly after that.
Did you put the regulator all the way up before installing the glass?

No, I did not set window brackets at the top. I put them where I could easily get to them with the glass in place, which, coincidentally, is about as far up as they will now go. Is it critical to have the brackets all the way up? If it is, how do I get them to the top now? They will not go past the halfway point.
I can understand what might have happened by not placing them at the top. Okay, makes some sense, but how do I get the brackets to the top now? Do I have to take everything out? I don ot have the glass in place at this point. With the glass in place, it still would not go more than halfway.

The door has to be closed for the window to go more than halfway up. Did you try it with the door closed? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm out of ideas 
When I did mine it didn't go all the way up until I closed the door.

EDIT: I did not try it that way because I was trying to check it for proper function without putting everything. back together. If the door must be closed for it to function correctly, I will button all up and hope for the best when I close the door.
For anyone trying to do this, it really is an easy fix. The panel comes off easily, same for glass. The new actuator fits in easily, and it all goes back together with minimal effort. Not knowing one of the function requirements has tripped me up, but if I have to do it again, it will be less than an hour to complete.

Just to wrap it up, the door needs to be closed for the window to go all the way up. Wish I had known that earlier, but thanks to 74plb, I got the job done quickly this a.m.
If any of you ever need to install a new regulator, buy one online and do it yourself. I got mine at Rock Auto, $349. If I have to do a window again, it will take less than an hour. BTW, dealer wants $849 for the part, and 3 hours of labor, total about $1200.

After I got a quote for $850 to install a new regulator in mine I bought an OEM one for I believe $250 or so. I installed it in under 2 hours even though I had never
done one in any car before. I guess I got lucky as it has worked perfectly since. Next on the repair list is the HUD.

Prices are considerably higher for the C6 window regulators compared to the C5 regulators.
I replaced my driver side regulator on my C5 with Dorman back in 2018 and I paid under $50 delivered so I bought both sides Dorman C5 regulators are still only $10 above that 2018 price currently on Rock Auto. I used a GM genuine regulator on my driver side prior to installing the Dorman regulator but it failed after 2 years so I spent much less for the Dorman regulators the next time and it fit and worked better.
