Default Interior Insulation

Just thought I'd pass this on.....just finished installing a Vette Nuts insulation/sound deadening kit in my '05 coupe. WOW what a difference in cabin noise! Prior to installing the insulation the car was noisy enough to be annoying on the highway and the difference is amazing.
I'm sure you could save a few bucks buying the stuff on a roll and cutting it yourself but IMHO it was well worth a few bucks more to have it all pre cut and labeled. Probably have about 10 to 12 hours in the project start to finish. Few beers helped too.

I insulated my last 3 vettes. A C4, a C5 and now a C6. It made a big difference in all three. Especially the C4.

Where did you get the pre-cut insulitation?

I'm not so much worried about the noise, I have a convertible, but I'd love to do something about the heat. does it help with the heat?

Mine helped more on the heat than the noise but it was a good improvement on both. I thought it was well worth the effort.

Absolutely helps with the heat and definitely the sound.

I had installed a VetteNuts insulation kit in my C5 and then installed an Exotic Vette Extreme kit in my C6 GS. Significant decrease in noise and heat. Its a good bit of work to install a kit, took me the better part of a weekend, but well worth the effort. Car will just feel more solid as well.

The Exotic Vette kit I installed has a base layer of Dynamat and then a second layer of a foil backed insulation.

Definitely helped with both heat and noise. I'm a fan of Vette Nuts kit but there are others out there. The Vette Nuts is pre-cut and labelled so you can't go wrong. It's foil on one side and dense foam on the other side. They also give you quite a bit of extra for little places you might need although the only place I used that was to partially cover the vent behind the passenger side rear speaker. That's a must as a lot of noise comes in from that rubber flapper that goes into the inner fender liner. That opening is designed to let air out when you close a door or the trunk deck and probably for air coming into the cabin through the HVAC system. Problem is that it leads directly to the rear tire plus it's much bigger an opening than you really need so covering at least half or even a little more with the insulation is a good idea. Simple to get to, just remove the speaker and it's right there. The Vette Nuts kit was $399 plus about $50 shipping but I think well worth it. They're really great guys and helpful. You can also buy a roll of similar stuff from other vendors and cut it yourself but after installing the pre cut kit I really glad I bought it as opposed to trying to measure and cut each piece myself. Put the windows down, seats in about the middle position, disconnect the battery before you dig in. Take the seats bolts out, use a blanket or towel on the sill, tilt the seats inward to get at the disconnect plugs. Figuring those out is a bit of a trick! Carefully lift the seats out, then dig into the console. After thats out you can pop off the sill plates and take all the carpet out easily. When you get to the back you'll have to support the hatch lid by either tying it up to something overhead or use a broom stick or similar to support it as you'll need to remove the bottom piston retainer and pull the piston off to get the plastic trim panel out. Will make sense when you look it over. You can put them back on temporarily after you remove the panel. Do the same in reverse when putting everything back together. Get a plastic trim removal tool if you don't have one. You'll want it for all the trim clips. Actually not a bad project all in all. You can do it in a weekend. PM me if you decide to do it and have any questions.
