Looking for advice, my buddy has the opportunity to get a 2008 base coupe with manual trans. Solid roof, 1LT 65k miles two owner / one minor accident on carfax. It’s clean, except for curb rash / badly painted wheels. The owner has brand new unmounted tires he is including with sale. It would need new wheels. Owner wanted $29k and went down to $26k.
Good cond eBay OEM wheels will prob be $1500 plus the cost of mounting tires, bal, and an alignment will probably be $2k total, making the car $28k.
He (my buddy) offered $22.5k based on multiple corvette value sites (and the fact he has to replace the wheels)
Thoughts ?
I bought an 07 base 3lt with 11k on the odometer 6 months ago for 28k. Car was bone stock and mint.
there are too many of these cars in that price range that have been garage queens to be buying subpar cars.
"Minor accident" does not explain much. Often, that is a fender or bumper that an owner panicked over and turned over to insurance. If all else looks good, and considering what you think it needs, I would possibly go as high as $23K, but that would be it. A damaged Vette is not something new Vette owners seek out. If your friend wants to keep it for 5+ years, then whether he pays $23K or $26K is of no consequence.
There are wheels for sale all the time in the C6 For Sale section for much less than $1500. As to the car being in an accident, that would be a deal breaker for me as I would never purchase any car or truck that I knew had been damaged. YMMV

Sounds like your buddy doesn't really want the car. Expecting a seller of a very used car to oay for him to buy new wheels is crazy talk.
Corvette price websites are worthless. They were worthleworthless, but they're extra useless in a supply constrained world.
My thought is the guy is going to either laugh at him, or not even respond to him. I'd probably bot even acknowledge him with a response.
If I had a car for sale for 29k, went to 26k, and someone offered me 22k I would simply not reply either. And ebay wheels are not $1500 - maybe if you buy them new and want to get ripped off. Wheels are a dime a dozen in local classifieds or FS section here. OEM wheels go for sub $500 all the time.
Not that I wouldn’t want everybody’s opinion, but the guys that are saying that he shouldn’t even respond to you, or Corvette “book” values don’t mean anything, or expecting the seller to knock off money for the wheels is dumb….. what do you think dealers go by when you trade in a car, or when you can’t sell it on the market and take it to a place that pays cash for a car they can’t sell ? You don’t think that they go by a “book value” and then deduct for things that are wrong ?? You’re friend is right to stay firm on $22k for a used 2 owner vette with an accident in its closet. Especially if he’s buying new wheels for it. $1500 for OEM good cond wheels is a fair bet. Don’t listen to guys that say you can get factory take offs for $500 on eBay all day long- you’ll end up with the same crap that’s on the car now. Good Luck !

I purchased a 2008 convertible auto with 3LT package and only 57K for 30K three months ago. It is bone stock with new tires , excellent stock chrome wheels. The paint is a 9 out of 10 has been color sanded and ceramic coated with only 3 small rock chips. The paint is victory red and has a mirror finish. The car you are looking at is a $ 22-23K car. Keep looking you will find a good one out there.
Hard to say what your friends decision, but with accident posted, it looses it's value like others say there are plenty out there, specially with C8 new owners want drive now.
Wait and be patient, there is seat out there calling your name, with better package than 1LT with no options.
That was a 22k car pre covid. Now, after 2 years of unrelenting and record breaking inflation (that the value mags aren't caught up on because they base values off formulas and not reality), that guy is pretty on the money, even for a 1lt with stories.
I wouldn't buy it, but if that's what fits the budget, that's what fits the budget.

Not really though - the amount of tirekickers and scammers is pretty insane when you try to sell a vehicle, or anything for that matter. Someone who comes off the bat offering 20-25% lower than asking price is not seriously interested in buying the car. Sorry.

5 years ago? Sure, maybe. But with today's markets book value means nothing. Private party sales tell the real value and no dealer has access to a database of that info.
$500 on eBay all day long- you’ll end up with the same crap that’s on the car now.
I didn't say ebay, I said the FS section here on the forums. Look up common sold parts on the forum like lights, wheels, power upgrades then go look at ebay for the same parts. EASY 2-3x markup.
I agree on some level. And a car is “worth” what it’s worth to you…I think this guy is fair in his $22k offer. If you’re afraid to get your feelings hurt selling a car with tire kickers and getting lowball offers- you probably shouldn’t list it. There’s always a “better deal” to be found. No hard feelings.

It's not about getting your feelings hurt, it's about not wasting your time when there's more buyers than there are carsike right now.
I think it’s a buyer market. Economy is bad. There are plenty of cars (used) with not enough buyers (with cash in their pockets)
I bet his friend can pull up and that vette will still be for sale.
Just seeing them for sale for a certain price don’t mean they are selling for that price. You can ask whatever you want- what you get is a different story.

So the economy is good and there’s a shortage of used corvettes ?? Wake up pal. The same cars are listed for weeks. Hardly anything is marked sold. Don’t compare them to empty lots of new car dealers. Sure prices went up. On everything But there’s no shortage of cleaner vettes out there. This one is as he described is worth $22k no mater what the owner is asking.
My friend said that corvette has been for sale almost 4 weeks and still listed today. The owner actually called my friend again to ask if he was still interested.
