Well said.

This is the first thread I read after coming over from being on my motorcycle forum. Better for an old lady to turn in front of a C6 than a Yamaha.

Will probably be a little more alert than normal when I take it out for a ride today.

Glad you're ok....and as others have exclaimed....your baby is fubar.

Glad you are OK, the car can be replaced. Good luck with the insurance claim.

as my screen name may indicate, I came from an HD road glide to the corvette world. Thanking god regularly today that I asked my wife two years ago if she minded me selling the RG and getting a convertible.

I had similar damage in April of 2021 when a truck ran a red light and hit my 2013 Covertible 427. Both airbags went off. Car was totaled. I considered getting another 427 convertible, but decided to put my name on McMulkins list for a C8. Received the replacement 10mo later. Don't rush into another purchase -- consider your options. You might want to seriously consider getting on the list for a C8.

Crashed my C6 back in 2018. Airbags didn't deploy, only body and suspension damage. Quite a bit of it to be fair. Anyway, it was totaled. Doesn't take much for these fiberglass bodies.

As a non-vert C6 GS owner, definitely a solid choice. I vote for that. I do have to ask, what led you to a C6 after owning a C7?

I was looking for a C6 GS in Feb/Mar of ‘20, found a smokin deal on a beautiful M7 C7 Z51 3LT vert with mag ride that had less than 4K miles, and was just a thousand or so more than what I was finding for GS. Anyway, pandemic hit within days of delivery, and in June of ‘21 I had a carvana offer of $9k more than I paid including the shipping I paid from TX to MI. Took the cash, paid off my wife’s CTS and started looking for what I wanted in the first place. I made the right choice. Just has the classic body lines and although the c7 was way more than I could have dreamed of, the style of the C6 just hooks ya.

As all have said, glad you are not hurt badly. Beware of aches or pains that show up in a few days or so. Lots of internal problems can crop up after something like this.

I hope you get "replacement" value, and not some BB formula. Today, most replacement values are well above BB.

Let us know how it goes. Any of could be in the same situation in the future.

Yup that's pretty much the way it works. Look around and find 10 of the most expensive cars with the exact same mileage, condition and options as your car and tell the insurance company this is roughly what it will cost to get me another car like mine. That's what they have to go by.

I’ve begun searching using autotempest.com and it’s pretty clear to me i can’t replace my car for less than $38-$40k. GS Vert, 38k miles, auto, 3LT, Z15, Z16, Nav, NPP, etc. I hope that’s accurate and a logical way to search for comparable vehicles. I should add that I haven’t found a single JSB one yet…..

It's unsettling just how quickly circumstances can change and fortunately you weren't badly hurt. Not so much for your Corvette. Good luck with the insurance claim and finding a replacement.

Sorry about your accident. Good luck with the insurance company and your hunt for a replacement.

My experience with insurance companies when the other party is at fault is they will be eager to settle to get off the hook for any long term medical problems. If you are sure you are physically OK you can use this to your advantage to get compensated for extra cost items like your shocks. I did that when my Triumph Speed Triple got totaled. Got above replacement value of the bike for my aftermarket exhaust, carbon fiber front fender, radiator shrouds, etc. Not to mention helmet, jacket, boots, etc. Was on a new Speed Triple with all new gear as soon as my collar bone healed.

Just curious if only the steering wheel airbag deployed, or maybe the driver side too? What was it like having that big balloon blowup in your face? I've never experienced this in an accident...knock on wood
How did the other "offender car" look?

Only the steering wheel bag deployed, it was a small explosion and then boom it was there, all in slow motion of course…..and there was a bit of smoke. I don’t recall hitting the bag or the bag hitting me. I had the two hand death grip on the wheel at about 9 and 3…..remember picking up my Oakleys off the passenger floor.
it’s more fun to go from 0-55 than 55-0 I can attest.

Accidents surely suck! I bought my car totaled and salvage title, however, no frame damage. Rebuilt it myself, and it's turned into a show winner. There's a lot that can be done and still have a great car. If the frame is toast, look elsewhere. The main thing is you both were okay!

I heard from the inspector at my insurance company and the car is a total loss. The 'loss' representative is supposed to be calling me within the next day or two. I do have an 'initial' $ amount, which is just a bit less than a random offer I got from Carvana on October 12th. Glad I saved that. She also told me that of the two they were using as comps, one was not a 3LT, neither had the Heritage Package, and the mileages were 58k and 70k. I have 38k on mine.
I'm going to get on Autotempest and start searching for cars as comps.

now... be patient.

Sorry about the loss, but... patience...

The used car market is riding a bubble from hell. Take the inflated value of your car now, wait for spring, and buy more car for less money.

Seriously.

I also know that I won’t get a 2% loan again. waiting until March/April I can limit my exposure to ridiculous rising interest rates by socking away my claim cash plus anything else I can save in order to place a substantial amount down on a replacement
