Default Window Regulator

I have a ‘12 GS and the window would only go up to a third. First thing I did immediately was try to index the window, window wouldn’t go up to index. Disconnected the battery for a couple hours, nothing. Go to CF and search window problem, had tried everything. So I removed the door panel and found no obstructions as in other threads. Felt for obstructions in the track a found frayed wires. Changed the regulator, but it would still only go up a third of the way. Back t to the forum for answers; SHUT THE DOOR FOR THE FIRST TIME INDEXING THE WINDOW. Case closed.

Can anyone explain what would cause this fraying to happen. TIA.

It just wore out. That particular section of cable may have been somewhat less than stellar to begin with.

I had the same fraying happen to my passenger side regulator. It had to be a defect as the passenger side window was seldom used. Replaced with a new regulator in 2013 and no issues since.

It looks like Chevrolet would had batter quality control. At least it was an easy fix and they didn’t go with the plastic ribbon.
