Default Maf sensor damage

I went to clean the MAF sensor and noticed this damage. Should it be replaced?

It doesn’t look like enough damage to do any harm, if it isn’t throwing any codes it should be fine

Just looking at the photo, that MAF sensor don't look bad at all. .How many miles on your C6?

1. Weak (high mileage) front pre-cat O2 sensors can certainly cause an overly lean or rich AFR resulting in a code.

2. Of course, the electronics in a failed MAF sensor can also cause a lean or rich AFR mixture with a resulting code.

206,000 total miles on your C6 !

Replace both your front O2 sensors before replacing anything else.

I drive it every day. The o2 sensors are not original, I had LG long tubes installed a few years ago. Rear sensors were tuned out. I guess it's an easy fix to do front sensors.

The screen is there to smooth out the airflow going over the MAF's hot-wire. This improves the accuracy of the MAF sensor.

You can do what you want, but I would not remove the screen.

c121 is the code. But I seem to have found the issue. When replacing the MAF after cleaning I found that the hose clamp attaching to the Throttle body was loose. I believed this caused the issues, Car runs 100% better now. I'll reset codes later and see if it comes back. But the backfires and pinging are gone.

I should have been more clear. What is the logic behind de-screening the MAF? I apologize for my ignorance.
