If you change out your head unit to a double DIN system with a screen and use the proper interface, there's a reverse circuit connection you can tie into at the head unit to activate the camera when the car is put into reverse, so no need to tap in the reverse circuit at the taillights.

In the last week I got a new JVC head unit for my 06 base C6 coupe from Crutchfield. I installed a backup camera from Amazon using the light green backup lights wire in the back of the car as the 12v trigger. When I put the transmission into reverse, the backup image automatically is displayed on the stereo screen as long as reverse gear is selected. It was easy to do with the help from several threads on this site.
