Default Head unit

I have a Pioneer head unit. I’ve had four of them as time has gone by to upgrade to newer units
I’m thinking about a Kenwood unit. Anyone have advice on which is better?

There are some very knowledgeable members that hang out here, ya might check in there also. Helped me make my choice, I went Kenwood and dealt with Crutchfield. Couldn’t be happier.

Good luck with your choice.

I'm personally a Pioneer fan myself, others swear by Kenwood. I think they're both pretty equal quality and function wise, it just mainly depends on your personal preference.

When I went with my unit I ran searches on Crutchfield, using the search filters many times to narrow down the selection, based on brand and features. Quite useful.

I'm happy with my Kenwood, don't have GPS, I use my phone always updated to the maps.

Don't put a lot of faith in Cructhfields search, they say a lot of Double DIN units won't fit when they actually do fit, pretty much any Double DIN units fit with a few exceptions, I suggest if you find a Double DIN unit that you like and they say it doesn't fit, ask in the Audio/Electronics section of this forum if anyones installed it in their car, and if they had any issues. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...lectronics-20/

I’d kick myself for not asking. What are you planning to do with your current head unit when you buy the next?

Ive been on the prowl for a nice used Pioneer or Kenwood unit with Apple Car Play.

I just installed a JVC HU, made by Kenwood from Crutchfield. At any price point, most name brand HUs are very comparable.

I thought about a Kenwood myself...for the sole reason that Pioneer likes to put the album cover on the main screen (blocking whatever background you have)....... Kenwood also has a start up screen which is cool as well.
Stayed with Pioneer because the "chip shortage" directed me towards whatever was in stock.

I also have a Pioneer. It’s started randomly freezing when I’m running CarPlay and Spotify and then the whole unit resets. So I too am looking for a replacement for the spring. I’ve been looking at the WC5700NEX

One thing I don’t like about the Pioneer is that there is a Pioneer splash screen at startup even when I put a custom splash screen in place. I’d like a real custom splash screen at startup no Pioneer or Kenwood logo.

Another improvement would be true canbus integration so I can see some vehicle data on the head unit. I’ve searched around but nobody seems to have an integration for this.

I personally had a Sony AX5500 and hated it. Swapped to a Pioneer DMH-WC5700NEX and a Pioneer ND-BC8 backup camera. Super easy install. Wireless CarPlay and AA if you need that.

I went with an Alpine ILX-W970HD, has all the bells & whistles plus navigation. Purchased and installed by Best Buy. I couldn't be happier with the results.
