I just bought a new to me 06 convertible. Has the Z51 package and a 6 speed manual. Has 28000 miles on it. Problem is in the mornings I start it and because of where I park it I start off with a left turn. I have rubbing noise from the torque tube tunnel and then right front for a few yards and it goes away. Doesn’t do it the rest of the day. Any thoughts?
I narrowed it down. It is coming from the back end but goes away very quickly. Am going to change the diff fluid
Correct fluid is Dexron 75W-90 gear oil, GM p/n 88862624 .... do not add any additional friction modifier. Allow the diff to drain overnight if possible or at least a couple of hours to drain all the old fluid. After refill, do 8-10 slow figure 8's to drive the new fluid fully into the clutch packs. You might also check the rear axle nuts....torque to 140 lbs. If loose, replace with new nuts p/n 1025766 & use red locktite.
Being a new guy I appreciate all the responses to my questions!!! Extremely helpful and enlightening!!
I’m also new and I’ve been going through some discussions in the forum and I realized the forum members are quite helpful by sharing their bright ideas which is great
Thanks for all the advice! I ordered the diff lube with the friction modifier, had it changed then did the figure 8’s. Noise is gone and life is good. There could be some folks at Walmart that think the guy in the silver convertible has issues with all the figure 8s
