I took my instrument panel out to fix my HUD. While I have it out, I removed the clear cover to paint the bezels (see picture). I put the clear cover back on then noticed that the tach was not sitting at zero any more. Is it okay to leave it the way it is and will it reset/sweep like it usually does at every start up? The other gauges might be off a bit too. Thanks!
I took mine out and painted the gauge rings in my car. The needles were all sweeping left when I took it out and when I put it back in. So no idea if they will sweep and correct or not.

I can always remove the clear cover and manually move the needles back to zero but I think they might even go further CCW than stopping at zero so I am kind of afraid to do that.
I remembered someone had an issue after they changed their gauge faces. I found that thread where I replied and referred them to the below for assistance.
As long as you didnt take the needles off the stepper motors their attached too they'll jump back to where they need to be. If you took them off they'll need to be re calibrated.

Perfect! That is what I was hoping was the case! I did not detach the needles from the stepper motors although; I was thinking about changing the color of the gauge faces but... no, not this time.
So just put everything back in the car as is then at start up, the needles will sweep back to where they need to be?

exactly...and you don't have to actually start the engine...just ignition on after the connectors are plugged in again to cycle them.
if the needles have been removed for a face plate change, then better have accurate pics of the positions beforehand
I'm attaching the instructions as this may be helpful
