Pulled this out of my (new-ish to me) 08 base today. Im pretty sure already, but I can’t believe what I’m seeing; is this a date code? Feb 09? That’d be dang near original. Im pushing up on 80k miles. Sure seems to be running better with the Wix replacement.
Most likely is the date of manufacture, but that doesn't tell you when it was purchased or installed. For example, I bought a couple of AC Delco filters over 4 years ago, and will install the 2nd this spring. Don't know how old they were when I bought them. How dirty was the filter you pulled out?
That’s a valid point regarding manufacture vs.
install. Hadn’t thought it through that far.
It had some browning, a few leaf giblets, didn’t look horrible. Gave it a few gentle taps on the ground and quite a lot of sand/dirt came out. Not exactly sure how to quantify it though. Nothing jaw-dropping though.
I changed the spark plugs and wires as well, which were also OE brand and part numbers. That’s why the date code grabbed my attention so hard.
It's a date of manufacture and lot number. Simply for identification. Filters sit on the shelf for years even before being sold. Doesn't sound like it was too dirty. Good to hear the Wix feels better.

These filter are expensive too. I paid 150.00 for new one and only NAPA had one. Next time going to go with
