Default Heat issue inside cabin

I have a 2012 GS with 21k miles that I bought a month ago. Today was the first time driving it where I needed heat inside the cabin. With the car well warmed up to operating temp, I could not get warm air to come from either the floor or dash vents until I raised the temp to 90 degrees on the dial and then it got very warm, were it should be at 90. As soon as I dialed it down to anywhere below 85, all I got was cool air from the vents. Is this normal?

Doesn't sound like it, may have a blend door not opening correctly.

There are a series of dampers called blend doors that control how much if any heated air from the heater core is mixed with either AC from the evaporator or fresh outside temp air.

Is the outside air temperature being reported correctly? Similar symptoms you’re having to this thread https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-air-temp.html
Solution was to replace the sensor.

My GS was always uncomfortably hot in the warm weather. I had one of those tunnel plates installed and that cured about 90% of my heat issues. I highly recommend one.

There is a temperature sensor with a little fan in the cabin. It would be more expensive and difficult to change than the outside temperature sensor. Here is a thread about that https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-question.html. I don’t know what the failure mode of that sensor is but it’s something to consider.

While tracing down the issue - service the cabin air filter - you wouldn't believe how dirty and clogged they can get dependent up road conditions driven on by previous owner. It's likely it's never been replaced.

It's easy to replace if your's is a six speed where the battery is located in the trunk. It's located in the engine bay passenger side. IMO get a Fram rather than an AC Delco, because the Fram is reinforced on each long end side making it much easier to slide into the compartment. The AC Delco will collapse like an accordion because of the soft sides of the filter.
